Description

The company's defense systems group is hiring a Manager 3 for Systems Engineering, Performance, Integration and Test (IPTL) to support the Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW) missile program within its Advanced Weapons team.

The IPTL leads the technical processes, schedules, budgets and multidisciplinary teams that develop, integrate, test and verify the requirements and performance of the SiAW missile.

The ideal candidate has run most or all of the systems engineering lifecycle on defense development programs and has technical depth in at least one subsystem, such as RF/sensors, guidance, navigation and control, telemetry/communication or airframe.

You will work directly with the program's Chief Engineer and Program Execution Manager and with the various IPTs to keep subsystem design, development and integration technically sound, on budget and on schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Enforce engineering rigor across all engineering work through process, documentation and modeling standards, following the Functional Best Practices and Principles and Operating Practices (PrOP).
  • Direct the development of requirements, system architecture, digital engineering products and performance models, and oversee integration, test, verification and validation for system and subsystem requirements.
  • Own the system architecture using model-based systems engineering and object-oriented system engineering methods.
  • Review and approve design artifacts such as requirements, interface control documents, models, trade studies, analyses and test procedures, plus test results and verification evidence, checking them for technical correctness, completeness and consistency with the architecture.
  • Drive vertical and horizontal technical and performance integration across product teams and the full program lifecycle.
  • Set and manage key design criteria and technical performance measures.
  • Plan and run technical reviews such as CDR, TRR, SVR and FCA/PCA, making sure entry and exit criteria are met.
  • Keep key systems engineering milestones on schedule with the program plan.
  • Report technical maturity, risks, issues and integration challenges to the Program Management Office (PMO) and the Chief Engineer (CE).
  • Give technical insight to the Cost Account Manager (CAM) so that technical risks, trade-offs and performance data shape program decisions on cost, schedule, resources and execution.
  • Run risk and opportunity management under the program risk process, covering identification, assessment, mitigation planning and tracking how well actions work.
  • Own the technical handling of critical system functions that span multiple subsystems, acting as the subject matter expert.
  • Start early integration and interface work with outside parties, including the government customer, platform integrators and suppliers, to lower downstream risk.
  • Communicate the SiAW weapon system technical baseline clearly to internal and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline plus at least 8 years of engineering experience, or a Master of Science in an engineering discipline plus at least 6 years, or a PhD plus 4 years.
  • Proven systems engineering leadership on major DoD or government acquisition programs, including leading multi-discipline teams of 20+ engineers.
  • Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) methods and tools, such as SysML environments, applied to requirements, architecture and interfaces.
  • Experience working with customers, end users, hardware teams, software teams, specialty engineering groups (safety, RAM, survivability and similar) and suppliers.
  • Experience leading requirement decomposition, design trades, modeling and simulation performance assessment, integration and verification across multiple disciplines.
  • Working knowledge of the Systems Engineering V-Model and proven experience running SE workflows, technical reviews and gated milestones.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and giving them technical guidance and career development feedback.
  • Current Government Secret clearance, adjudicated within the past 5 years, and the ability to be cleared for a Special Access Program (SAP).
  • Preferred: Experience with weapon systems, Weapon Open System Architecture (WOSA), Government Reference Architecture (GRA) or other open systems architecture frameworks.
  • Preferred: Experience with digital engineering, including digital threads, integrated digital environments and model-based integration of design, analysis and test artifacts.
  • Preferred: Experience with mission systems, avionics or complex embedded systems that bring together hardware, software and firmware.
  • Preferred: Ability to work well in a fast-paced, cross-functional setting with competing priorities and changing requirements.
  • Preferred: Strong decision-making and the ability to drive technical trades and recommendations with clear rationale and risk and benefit explanations.
  • Preferred: Excellent written and verbal communication, including preparing and presenting technical briefings to internal leaders and external customers.
  • Preferred: Analytical thinking, problem solving and creativity in developing and evaluating system solutions.

Conditions
