Description

The company is a consulting firm that works with large enterprises, mid-sized businesses and government agencies across the country.

This is a 10-week, in-person internship at the Richmond, Virginia headquarters, built around a simulated client engagement that covers the full life cycle of a typical IT consulting project.

Interns work in self-led teams with full-time consultants as guides and mentors, and join weekly lunch-and-learn sessions with the leadership team.

The program is ranked the top consulting internship in the country by Vault.com.

The company looks for undergraduate juniors who solve problems carefully, design around user needs and want to grow their craft.

Responsibilities

  • Build information architectures, task flows, wireframes and prototypes that follow interaction design and usability best practices.
  • Design or adapt UI that improves the overall experience and follows visual design and accessibility standards.
  • Use UX research methods and run usability tests so each design improves with each round.
  • Present clear, concise decks to clients and internal teams that explain why you made each design choice.
  • Work with clients and teammates to show why research-backed UX and interaction design matter.
  • Track design, technology and AI-enabled workflow trends and judge how they fit client work.

Requirements

  • Build a design solution to a business problem over the summer, working in an integrated team and using development platforms and languages.
  • Submit a portfolio with your application.
  • Be an undergraduate with an expected graduation between Winter 2027 and Spring 2028, and plan to work full time after graduating.
  • Show that you work well on a team, motivate yourself and ask good questions.
  • Have project or internship experience with tools such as Figma and Adobe CC. This is strongly preferred, and knowledge of accessibility best practices is a plus.
  • Communicate well in writing and speaking.
  • Have coursework or projects covering design systems, accessibility, UX research or product design.
  • Explain your design decisions and ideas clearly.
  • Be curious about emerging technology, including AI-powered design tools and workflows. Hands-on experience using AI prototyping tools to quickly produce concepts, user flows, wireframes or interactive experiences is a plus.
  • Applicants from any major may apply. Human-Centered Interaction (HCI), Digital Media, Web Design, Information Science and Graphic Design majors are preferred but not required.
  • Be available to work in person 40 hours a week for 10 weeks in Richmond, VA, from June 1 to August 6, 2027. Interns living more than 50 miles away receive a housing stipend.
