Storage Systems/Software Engineer

Description

This is a hybrid engineering role in the United States, job level TCP02, with a storage and hybrid cloud focus. You will spend an average of 2 days per week in a company office.

The company helps other businesses connect, protect, analyze and act on their data and applications, from edge to cloud.

The work covers designing, building, troubleshooting and debugging software for upgrades and new products. Systems include operating systems, compilers, networks, routers, utilities, databases and internet-related tools. The job may also check hardware compatibility or shape hardware design.

At this level you apply deep subject knowledge to common and sometimes complex technical problems and suggest other approaches when needed. You may lead a project and support more junior engineers. You make independent calls and consult others to choose the best way to reach goals.

Responsibilities

• Design changes, updates and enhancements for parts and subsystems of systems software, such as operating systems, compilers, networking, utilities, databases and internet-related tools.
• Review designs and decide which coding, programming and integration work is needed, based on the goals and your understanding of the overall product architecture.
• Write and run full test plans, protocols and documentation for your part of an application. Find and debug problems, and build fixes that fit the application architecture.
• Lead a project team of software systems engineers and internal and outsourced development partners to deliver reliable, cost-effective, high-quality solutions for your assigned system or subsystem.
• Keep management, internal teams and outsourced partners updated on design status, project progress and issue resolution.
• Represent the software systems engineering team through every phase of larger, more complex projects. Guide and mentor less experienced colleagues.

Requirements

• A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, information systems or an equivalent field.
• Typically 2 to 4 years of experience.
• Skill in several software design tools and programming languages.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem solving.
• Experience designing software that runs on several types of platforms.
• Knowledge of software testing methods, including writing and running test plans, debugging, and building test scripts and tools.
• Excellent written and spoken communication. You must be fluent in English and the local language, and able to explain architectures and design proposals and negotiate options with managers.

Conditions

Hybrid work: an average of 2 days per week in a company office.

Base salary range of USD 105,500 to 200,500 per year for roles based in Massachusetts. Actual pay depends on location, experience, education and skill level, and variable incentives may also be offered on top of base salary.
