Description

The team supports a large, global cloud and data center program for the U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Technology.

The role covers storage engineering across hybrid data centers, including NetApp ONTAP, SAN and NAS design, data protection, and storage virtualization, aimed at keeping systems highly available, fast, and ready for the mission.

The company is a global technology and professional services firm with about 26,000 staff in 50+ countries, serving U.S. government, defense, and intelligence agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Build, configure, and maintain NetApp ONTAP clusters, including volumes, LIFs, SnapMirror and SnapVault relationships, export policies, and performance tuning.
  • Run SAN and NAS storage for critical workloads across data centers spread over several sites.
  • Handle VMware storage work: datastore provisioning, VMFS and NFS design, multipathing, vVols, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Write and maintain infrastructure-as-code automation for storage provisioning and configuration using Ansible, PowerShell, and REST APIs.
  • Help engineer converged and cloud infrastructure, data protection, monitoring, and security platforms.
  • Support round-the-clock storage operations alongside enterprise and site operations teams, following ITIL-based incident, problem, and change processes.
  • Watch capacity, performance, replication, data protection, and resiliency across large ONTAP environments.
  • Assist with migrations, storage hardware refresh, cluster expansions, and re-platforming across DT sites.
  • Right-size storage allocations and manage resource lifecycles to meet availability and growing demand.
  • Apply storage security practices such as RBAC, encryption, export controls, secure replication, logging, and auditing.
  • Keep systems aligned with FedRAMP, NIST RMF, FISMA, and DT security directives, and help with vulnerability remediation, hardening, and continuous monitoring.
  • Build reports for DT leadership, including storage health dashboards, SLA metrics, and lifecycle planning data, and feed storage telemetry into monitoring, observability, and CMDB systems.
  • Work with engineers across compute, virtualization, networking, cloud, data protection, cybersecurity, and operations on integrated platform delivery.
  • Write engineering documentation, runbooks, design diagrams, and knowledge-transfer material for government staff and support partners.
  • Take part in special projects, modernization pilots, and new storage service development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience with enterprise IT systems, cloud services engineering, or hybrid cloud environments.
  • Certification: NetApp Certified Data Administrator, ONTAP (NCDA) or NetApp Certified Implementation Engineer, ONTAP (NCIE), plus VMware Certified Professional, Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV) or a VMware storage-focused certification such as vSAN Specialist.
  • Deep knowledge of NetApp ONTAP cluster operations, SAN and NAS administration, replication technologies, SnapMirror and SnapVault, and performance troubleshooting.
  • Strong VMware storage integration skills, including VMFS, NFS, vVols, datastore capacity planning, and multipath optimization.
  • Scripting and automation skills in PowerShell, Python, REST APIs, and Ansible.
  • Familiarity with converged and hyperconverged platforms, Fibre Channel and iSCSI networking, and enterprise monitoring systems.
  • Understanding of STIGs, SRGs, FedRAMP requirements, and federal cybersecurity frameworks.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Active Top Secret clearance required.
