Description

The company's Compute Science & Solutions (CSS) software platform team builds compute platform software across embedded, on-device, and edge computing for advanced medical devices.

The team is global and collaborative, works across several disciplines, and moves quickly.

You will design, build, tune, and ship this software, which powers next-generation medical devices and supports better patient care worldwide.

The role calls for systems-level thinking, infrastructure software skill, sound problem-solving, and a drive to deliver strong results. You will work well in a team and collaborate with stakeholders both on site and remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, testing, and deployment of applications, backend services, and platform tools in Python, following modern engineering practice.
  • Mentor and guide junior and early-career developers.
  • Set and promote development standards, including code reviews, unit testing, automated quality checks, and CI/CD.
  • Build RESTful APIs, data services, and backend components for compute platform solutions.
  • Work with systems, hardware, infrastructure, cybersecurity, and product engineering teams to set technical requirements and deliver reliable solutions.
  • Make software architecture decisions that favour scalability, maintainability, reliability, and performance.
  • Build and maintain automated test frameworks that keep code quality high and test coverage strong.
  • Diagnose and fix complex software problems across application, service, and infrastructure layers.
  • Take part in Agile work, including planning, estimating, running sprints, and improving the process.
  • Assess new technologies, frameworks, and tools that could raise team productivity and solution quality.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • At least 5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong Python application development skills.
  • Experience designing and building RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience building production-quality software with modern Python frameworks such as FastAPI, AsyncIO, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Plotly Dash, or similar web application frameworks.
  • Experience writing and maintaining automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • A solid grasp of software design patterns, object-oriented design, and application architecture.
  • Experience reviewing code and mentoring developers.
  • Experience with relational databases, including PostgreSQL and SQLite.
  • Experience with Git-based source control workflows.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Experience developing software on Linux.
  • Experience with Docker and containerized deployments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across technical disciplines.
  • Nice to have: experience leading software development efforts or acting as technical lead for small project teams.
  • Nice to have: experience mentoring junior developers and pushing for engineering excellence.
  • Nice to have: experience developing software in regulated industries such as medical devices, healthcare, aerospace, or industrial systems.
  • Nice to have: experience with software observability, monitoring, and performance analysis.
  • Nice to have: experience with edge computing, high-performance computing, or embedded systems.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with cybersecurity principles and secure development practices.
  • Nice to have: experience working in Agile and Scrum environments.
  • Nice to have: a record of shaping technical direction and driving cross-functional collaboration.
  • The company will not sponsor employment visas for this role, now or later.
