Description

The company runs a customer engagement platform and is growing quickly across the globe.

The team owns how customers segment and target their users. Every message the company sends passes through pipelines that handle billions of users a day.

The work sits close to customers in a central, high-impact part of the product, and the team moves fast.

The company is headquartered in New York, with offices in Austin, Berlin, Bucharest, Chicago, Dubai, Jakarta, London, Paris, San Francisco, São Paulo, Singapore, Seoul, Sydney, and Tokyo.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build large systems and services that process huge data volumes and complex real-time workloads, including extending the ClickHouse pipeline with new filters and attributes.
  • Shape what the team builds and how it gets built, measuring success by the value delivered to customers while weighing architecture, performance, and cost.
  • Work with product managers to decide what to build and why, then keep improving features after launch based on how customers really use them.
  • Take ownership of the complex backend behind segmentation and keep raising its performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Coach engineers on software design, coding, and operations by setting an example.
  • Partner with other engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders so segmentation fits well with the wider business goals.
  • Look for ways to improve the systems, evaluate new technologies, and push for adopting the ones that fit.
  • Keep alerts, on-call rotations, and troubleshooting playbooks current so the systems stay stable and high quality.
  • Use AI agents across your daily work to navigate the large Ruby monolith, build proofs of concept, and move quickly and safely from a request to a working solution. AI is used at every stage of delivery.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including hands-on full-stack or back-end work, ideally on high-scale, high-throughput systems.
  • A record of shipping customer-facing products on high-scale data systems, from defining the problem through launch and adoption, with clear results for customers or the business.
  • A record of building foundational data-driven systems at scale, such as streaming, real-time pipelines, or large data platforms.
  • Experience setting architectural direction, scoping large efforts, and managing technical debt.
  • Clear communication of complex technical ideas and a readiness to lead major technical initiatives.
  • A deep grasp of software design, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Strong communication and organization skills, and a track record of working well in teams while driving your own work.
  • Bonus: familiarity with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, Sidekiq, and SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Bonus: previous work with MongoDB, ClickHouse, Snowflake, or other data lake solutions.
  • Bonus: experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes) and with AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Bonus: experience with distributed systems, API design, monitoring, and sound engineering practices.
  • Bonus: a clear passion for customer experience.
