Description

The company is a subsidiary of a larger parent group. It builds hardware and network services used by more than 100 million people and owns well-known entertainment intellectual property.

The team is moving the global network from hand-managed, inconsistent configuration to a standard, version-controlled model that is increasingly automated.

This is a hands-on staff-level individual contributor role. It focuses on Infrastructure as Code, reusable automation, automated validation and safe release pipelines, with the aim of cutting configuration drift and making changes repeatable and auditable.

You will work with network engineering, security, architecture and platform teams to shape technical direction, set practical standards and guardrails, and stay involved in day-to-day network delivery.

Success means more of the network managed through version-controlled automation, less drift, manual work and reliance on single experts, shorter and more predictable change lead times, lower change-failure rates, and steady adoption of shared automation standards across the engineering team.

Responsibilities

  • Review the network estate, toolchain and operational workflows to find configuration variance, manual effort and change risk, then help define a phased modernisation roadmap.
  • Set up the Infrastructure as Code operating model, covering the source of truth, configuration standards, source control, peer review, testing, release governance and secure handling of credentials.
  • Write reusable automation in object-oriented or similar languages such as Python and Go (Golang), using Terraform, Ansible, APIs and configuration-management tools.
  • Build CI/CD pipelines with automated linting, testing, intended-state validation, drift detection, policy checks, approvals, controlled rollout and reliable rollback.
  • Work with engineering, architecture and security teams to turn network intent into version-controlled implementations and to shape reference architectures, standards, lifecycle plans and service roadmaps.
  • Lead the safe move of existing services onto the automated model, staying hands-on for complex delivery, business-as-usual work, critical changes, troubleshooting and major incidents.
  • Take part in technical authority and design-review forums, mentor engineers, and make automation a capability the whole team owns rather than knowledge held by one specialist.

Requirements

  • A solid record of modernising network infrastructure through automation or Infrastructure as Code in a large, complex production environment.
  • Strong software engineering skills in object-oriented or similar languages such as Python and Go (Golang), including maintainable code, structured data, API integration, testing, error handling and documentation.
  • Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible or comparable tools, including reusable, idempotent components and controlled infrastructure delivery.
  • Strong working knowledge of Git, pull-request workflows, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, release controls, policy enforcement and secrets management.
  • Deep enterprise networking knowledge across routing, switching, wireless, resilient design, network access control and secure remote connectivity, plus advanced Juniper Mist, EX Series and Junos experience or equivalent platform expertise.
  • Expert troubleshooting and sound engineering judgement, with experience supporting operational delivery, complex changes, major incidents and root-cause improvement.
  • Staff-level influence and communication, including setting technical direction across teams, building consensus, contributing to governance forums and developing other engineers.
  • Desirable: experience with network APIs and data models, including REST, NETCONF, RESTCONF, JSON, YAML and YANG-based workflows.
  • Desirable: experience with GitHub Enterprise, GitHub Actions, automated policy enforcement, artefact management and developer enablement.
  • Desirable: experience with Azure or AWS networking, enterprise authentication, Zero Trust principles and network observability platforms.
  • Desirable: experience with architecture governance, technical authority panels, strategic vendor engagement and globally delivered service operations.
  • Desirable: experience in high-availability gaming, digital-media, creative or similarly demanding production environments.

Conditions

This role follows a hybrid working policy, and the base pay range may vary in line with that policy.
