Role Overview

The Staff Network Engineer is a senior individual contributor responsible for the technical direction, architecture guidance, design governance, implementation oversight, and operational support of enterprise WAN, LAN, wireless, and secure-connectivity solutions within a corporate network environment.

This role provides technical leadership for the organization’s highest-complexity and enterprise-scale network initiatives. The Staff Network Engineer influences architecture, reference patterns, engineering standards, and technology roadmaps; provides end-to-end technical oversight across engineering, security, project, operations, and vendor teams; and serves as a senior escalation point for complex cross-domain issues.

The Staff Network Engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy and uses technical influence, mentoring, and engineering leadership to improve network reliability, security, scalability, operational supportability, and long-term technology outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Network Design & Implementation
  • Provide technical direction for enterprise WAN, LAN, wireless, remote-access, and secure-connectivity solutions.
  • Lead the design and technical delivery of the organization’s most complex, high-risk, or enterprise-scale network initiatives from requirements and architecture through implementation and operational acceptance.
  • Influence and develop network architecture principles, reference patterns, design standards, and reusable engineering practices in partnership with Architecture, Security, Operations, and other technology teams.
  • Produce and govern high-level and low-level network designs, technical decision records, implementation strategies, resiliency requirements, and supportability criteria.
  • Lead technical-design reviews and ensure solutions appropriately address reliability, scalability, capacity, security, observability, automation, and lifecycle requirements.
  • Assess network performance, capacity, resiliency, and technical debt and provide strategic recommendations supporting current and long-term business requirements.
  • Evaluate emerging network technologies and determine their potential applicability, benefits, risks, dependencies, and operational impact.
  • Provide technical oversight for design validation, testing, implementation readiness, rollback planning, and operational handoff.
  • Operations & Advanced Support
  • Serve as a senior engineering escalation point for highly complex, cross-domain, recurring, or business-critical network incidents.
  • Lead root-cause analysis for significant network events and ensure corrective actions address systemic technical, process, monitoring, or supportability gaps.
  • Provide technical direction during major incidents and coordinate engineering analysis across internal teams, vendors, and service providers.
  • Establish expectations for network observability, operational readiness, troubleshooting procedures, resiliency testing, and support documentation.
  • Analyze incident, problem, performance, and capacity trends to identify systemic risks and prioritize engineering improvements.
  • Security & Compliance
  • Provide senior technical guidance to ensure security and compliance requirements are incorporated into network architectures, standards, and major initiatives.
  • Lead technical analysis and remediation planning for significant network vulnerabilities, security events, and control gaps.
  • Evaluate proposed designs for security, resiliency, operational risk, and control effectiveness and recommend required improvements.
  • Promote secure-by-design practices throughout the network-engineering lifecycle.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Provide senior technical direction to vendors and service providers and evaluate proposed products, designs, implementation approaches, and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical leadership across Project Management, Account Management, Security, Network Operations, Enterprise Architecture, application teams, vendors, and service providers.
  • Communicate complex technical risks, decisions, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Continuous Improvement & Automation
  • Define and advance technical practices for Python, network automation, configuration validation, testing, and operational analytics.
  • Lead the development and adoption of reusable automation frameworks, engineering templates, validation controls, and standard implementation patterns.
  • Develop recommendations and roadmaps addressing reliability, scalability, observability, security, technical debt, and lifecycle modernization.
  • Measure whether engineering improvements deliver the intended technical and operational outcomes.
  • Knowledge Sharing & Mentorship
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to Network Engineers, Senior Network Engineers, and network-support engineers.
  • Lead architecture reviews, design reviews, technical briefings, troubleshooting sessions, and post-incident engineering reviews.
  • Create force-multiplier impact by transferring knowledge, improving engineering practices, and enabling other engineers to solve increasingly complex problems.
  • Provide technical leadership through influence and expertise without direct people-management responsibility.
  • Visa requires at least 3 days in office, expectations of these days will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.

Requirements

  • Basic Qualification
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, or a related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Progressive enterprise network-engineering experience, including demonstrated leadership of high-complexity or enterprise-scale network initiatives.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF).
  • Expert knowledge of Cisco routing and switching in large enterprise environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Arista switching.
  • Advanced knowledge of enterprise WAN, LAN, wireless, MPLS, and TCP/IP networking.
  • Advanced experience with Cisco VPN networking.
  • Demonstrated experience developing or influencing network architectures, designs, technical standards, or reference patterns.
  • Experience serving as a senior technical escalation point for complex network incidents and leading systemic root-cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical decisions, risks, and recommendations to senior technical and business stakeholders.
  • Preferred Qualification
  • Significant experience with SD‑WAN technologies, ideally Silver Peak.
  • Advanced understanding of SASE solutions.
  • Working knowledge of cloud networking concepts, including hybrid connectivity.
  • Working knowledge of Python and network automation tools.
  • Experience with Citrix NetScaler Access Gateways.
  • Experience developing reusable automation frameworks using Python, Ansible, APIs, or infrastructure-as-code practices.
  • Knowledge of Unified Communications and MS Teams solutions.
  • Cisco certification (e.g., CCNA, CCNP or equivalent experience).
  • Experience with network-performance, packet-analysis, configuration-management, modelling, and observability tools.
