Staff Machine Learning Scientist

Description

The role sits in the company's AI Labs group, inside the engineering organisation, which works on AI and machine learning for its cloud security platform.

The team is hiring at all levels, and candidates are assessed individually and placed at the level that fits their skills and experience.

The group builds large-scale AI and ML solutions for the platform, including features for data security and threat protection, and also applies the same techniques to internal business operations.

Responsibilities

• Find strong AI and ML use cases in AI security, data security and related areas, using the company's wide range of data sources.
• Plan how to acquire and label data at scale for each use case.
• Work with data engineers to pull, clean and normalise data so that a steady stream of high-quality data keeps flowing.
• Partner with threat research and development teams on feature engineering, choosing strong feature sets in a systematic way.
• Build ML models for each defined use case and set KPIs that show whether the algorithms perform well.
• Run rigorous internal tests to confirm high efficacy and low false positive and false negative rates.
• Interpret results and explain what they mean to others.
• Write up each use case, covering data acquisition, feature engineering, training, validation, deployment, possible future improvements and other key details.
• Work with development and QE teams to bring models into production.
• Champion AI and ML across the company, encouraging their use beyond security where it fits.
• Keep up with new developments in AI and ML, including large language models.

Requirements

• You have a strong startup mindset, are willing to take on several roles, and can deliver solutions from start to finish.
• You have 8+ years of industry experience building AI and ML models, ideally for security products or services.
• You have hands-on work with tools such as CUDA, Python, TensorFlow and LLMs.
• You have hands-on experience with modern big data pipelines and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Natural language processing (NLP) and data mining experience is highly desirable.
• You are a self-directed, energetic worker who does well in a dynamic, quick-moving environment.
• You communicate clearly in speech and writing and can explain complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
• You can influence people without formal authority.
• You hold an advanced degree in computer science, statistics, electrical engineering or an equivalent technical field.
