Staff Data Platform Software Engineer - Persistence

Description

The company is hiring a Staff Software Engineer for its Platform Persistence team, working on how platform data is managed across its entire data lifecycle.

The team works on high-visibility projects that reach executive leadership. The role also covers telemetry and data visualization, shaping how customer and platform data is used and presented.

This is a flexible hybrid role. Flexible roles require 2 days per week in a company office, located in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; or San Diego, CA.

The team includes distributed storage, Kubernetes-based deployments and AI-assisted development.

Responsibilities

• Write highly scalable code that handles concurrency and memory use well.
• Help define data management strategy, with a focus on scalability, efficiency and security.
• Work with cross-functional teams to deliver data initiatives.
• Investigate hard data problems, including data loss detection and recovery.
• Promote data best practices and security standards across the organization.
• Monitor data performance, troubleshoot issues and make improvements.
• Keep up with data storage and management technology, such as distributed storage systems (S3, Apache Iceberg) and Kubernetes-based deployments.
• Apply AI tools to large-scale data and distributed systems problems, setting sound guardrails and process for AI-led software development.
• Help foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, 5+ years with a Master's degree, 3+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
• Proficiency in Java and strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Proficiency with concurrency and parallel programming.
• Working knowledge of databases, data modeling and data storage technologies.
• Strong relational database experience, including handling large volumes of data.
• Strong understanding of cloud-based and distributed systems.
• Working knowledge of distributed storage systems such as S3 and Apache Iceberg.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Working knowledge of JavaScript, which is useful for cross-functional collaboration.
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and hands-on experience deploying services on it is a strong plus.
• Familiarity with the company platform is a plus.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools and awareness of related guardrails and process is a plus.

Conditions

Flexible hybrid role: 2 days per week in a company office in San Francisco, CA; Pleasanton, CA; Santa Clara, CA; or San Diego, CA.

Base pay is $158,500 - $277,400 for positions in this location, plus equity where applicable, variable or incentive compensation and benefits. Sales roles generally offer an On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure.

Base pay is a guideline. Individual total compensation varies with qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.

Pay is based on the geographic location where the role sits and may change with work location.

Work personas (flexible, remote or required in office) are assigned by the nature of the work and the work location. The company may use a third-party service to check the distance between your primary residence and the nearest office.
