Description

The company's defense systems division is hiring a staff data architect and data scientist for the Sentinel program.

The role is based in Roy, UT and includes about 25% travel.

The job leads technical direction for data and AI work across the division and requires working with complex data and classified or sensitive assets.

Responsibilities

  • Design data mining architectures, models, and protocols, plus statistical reports and analysis methods, to find trends in large data sets.
  • Apply that analysis to business questions or to create a competitive edge for the company.
  • Turn the Chief Data Officer's Data and AI Strategy into a design the team can carry out.
  • Architect a shared data platform so data is reliable, easy to use, and able to scale across the division.
  • Build resilient big-data pipelines with tools such as Spark, Flink, and Snowflake that meet security classifications, privacy rules, and governance standards.
  • Lead the use of modern statistical, machine learning, and deep learning methods, such as Bayesian inference and causal-impact analysis, on high-visibility problems.
  • Set and enforce standards for model validation, reproducibility, observability, and continuous delivery of analytics products.
  • Mentor data scientists, engineers, and analysts with hands-on guidance and career development that builds scientific rigor and new ideas.
  • Drive adoption of new data technologies and promote decisions based on data.
  • Serve as the go-to expert for a major technical area, present technical solutions to senior leaders, and advise management, peers, and customers.
  • Keep key external customer contacts to understand their technical needs.
  • Contribute to priority initiatives that support the company's AOP and LRSP objectives.

Requirements

  • You must be a US citizen who can obtain a USG Secret clearance and SAP access.
  • Typical T05 minimum: 12 years with a bachelor's in science, 10 years with a master's, or 8 years with a PhD.
  • Proven experience leading data integration across complex, mixed systems, including low-code data fabric platforms such as Palantir Foundry, Databricks Lakehouse, Microsoft Fabric, IBM Watsonx.data, or Denodo, for large-scale analytics.
  • Strong experience with data modeling and architecture patterns in cloud and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Ability to turn data architecture into measurable results, such as cost, schedule, performance, or faster decisions.
  • Experience linking data into Digital Threads and supporting AI and ML data pipelines.
  • Strong command of Python, R, or Scala, and experience with big data platforms such as Databricks, Qlik, Cloudera, Hadoop, Spark, or Snowflake.
  • Strong statistical and data visualization skills.
  • Preferred: Recognized subject matter expert who can combine disciplines, anticipate data analytics trends, and shape long-term organizational strategy.
  • Preferred: Track record of developing new analytical approaches or algorithms that solved complex, high-impact business problems.
  • Preferred: Experience leading technical discussions, directing multidisciplinary teams, and guiding junior staff toward best practices.
  • Preferred: Comfortable presenting complex findings and strategy to senior leaders and external stakeholders, framed as business value.
  • Preferred: History of driving change, such as adopting new architectures, standards, or frameworks across the enterprise.
  • Preferred: Experience as a spokesperson on advanced projects and maintaining external contacts to capture emerging needs.
  • Preferred: Advanced certifications such as AWS Certified Big Data Specialty, Google Professional Data Engineer, or equivalent.
  • Highly desirable: Experience in defense, aerospace, or other high-security settings, especially handling classified or sensitive data.
