Staff AI/ML Engineer

Description

The role is a Staff AI/ML Engineer position for someone who wants hard, new problems. You will work in research teams that prototype and build AI/ML algorithms across object detection and classification, natural language processing, time series prediction and classification, reinforcement learning, and large language models.

This is a full-time position requiring an active TS/SCI clearance with an adjudicated polygraph to start. Anticipated posting end date: 11/27/2026.

Responsibilities

• Build machine learning algorithms as part of a small, interdisciplinary team.
• Analyze large datasets spanning images, text, time series, and graph data.
• Read and apply current research papers.
• Write technical documentation and user guides.
• Understand training and deployment pipelines, including AWS services.
• Train and mentor other team members.

Requirements

• Required: Active TS/SCI U.S. Government security clearance with an adjudicated polygraph.
• Required: B.S. in machine learning, computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
• Required: 8+ years of experience developing AI/ML systems.
• Required: Proficiency in Python and ML libraries such as PyTorch, Lightning, OpenCV, NumPy, and Polars.
• Required: Experience with supervised and unsupervised learning.
• Required: Experience with deep learning architectures.
• Required: Experience collaborating on a team using version control such as git, GitLab, or Bitbucket.
• Desired: M.S. or PhD in a relevant technical field.
• Desired: Experience leading interdisciplinary teams.
• Desired: Experience with MCP, Microsoft Agent Framework, HuggingFace, LangChain, and OpenCV.
• Desired: Experience with GenAI Ops techniques such as LLM-as-a-judge, and with frameworks such as LangFuse, MLFlow, and Arize Phoenix.
• Desired: Experience with LLMs, Transformers, YOLO, GANs, reinforcement learning, Linux, and AWS.
• Desired: Experience with CUDA and Python libraries such as CuPy, Numba, CuSignal, CuDF, and others.
• Desired: Experience with application deployment, virtualization, and containerization, such as Podman, Docker, Kubernetes, or Rancher.
• Desired: Familiarity with AWS cloud computing resources such as EC2, S3, and Lambda.

Conditions

Travel of up to 10%, local only.

Salary range is $98,500-$206,800 nationally. Final pay depends on location, federal contract labor categories and wage rates, prior experience, skills, education, and certifications.

The role can be performed in more than one location, so the range shown is the national average.
