The company makes the Oura Ring and its connected app, which give members daily insights into readiness, activity and sleep quality. It serves millions of people worldwide and moves quickly, with the speed of a startup.
The AI Transformation team is rebuilding how software gets built. Every engineer has agentic tooling, and an existing pipeline already turns a well-formed ticket into a reviewed, tested commit stack. That pipeline runs interactively, headless and on a cloud sandbox fleet, and includes its own evals and tracing.
The next goal is to cover the whole development loop, not only code generation. As a Staff Engineer on this team, you will design and own the system that lets hundreds of engineers across iOS, Android, backend and AI services ship with agents doing real work, while people make the calls that need judgment.
The team is LLM-forward and favors rapid prototyping, short iterative loops and AI-native development. You can work hybrid from the offices in Helsinki, Oulu or Tampere. If you live elsewhere in Europe and want to relocate to Finland, relocation support may be available for this role in some cases.
Success means validated changes reach members faster and more safely. The measures are time to a trustworthy signal, escaped defects, cost per merged change, and how many squads choose the paved path because it works better.
Responsibilities
Not everything below is expected on day one. These are the problems you will own.
Set the technical direction for the agentic ticket-to-PR pipeline and make it dependable infrastructure. You own its architecture, including agent orchestration, context management and tool calling, and you improve reliability, throughput, cost and developer experience across mobile, backend and web repositories. Where the risk allows, run it unattended.
Extend agent work past code generation into spec quality checks, test generation, automated review, CI failure triage and repair, release verification and post-deploy signals, so the system learns from what happens after merge.
Prototype quickly and get new workflows running on real tickets with real squads within days. Turn what holds up into production infrastructure.
Run AI in production with proper rigor. You own the eval sets, LLM-as-a-judge grading, versioning, tracing and dashboards that show whether a workflow change helped. This includes the hard case of a change that passes CI and is still wrong. Track merge rate, rework, time to signal, cost per change and escaped defects, and make them visible to engineers and leadership.
Design sandboxing, permissions, human checkpoints and guardrails scaled to risk, with privacy built in from the start. Health data, security and infrastructure changes get stronger controls. Low-risk, easily verified work can run without supervision.
Set the standard for AI-augmented engineering across the organization by shipping in a pipeline-first way yourself and helping the engineers around you improve.
Work with squads and their AI DRIs to find where the pipeline fails on real work. Fix the system instead of the single output, and turn what works into paved paths, skills, templates and docs that others can extend.
Partner with platform, developer productivity, security and privacy, AI infrastructure, mobile and backend squads, product, design and engineering leadership. Make trade-offs explicit and keep everyone on one system rather than several parallel ones.
Requirements
You have built and run production systems that other engineers rely on, such as developer tooling, internal platforms or AI infrastructure at scale. Demonstrated results count more than years of experience.
You have built and operated agentic coding workflows or autonomous loops in a real engineering organization, beyond demos. Examples include background agents that open PRs, automated review, CI repair or test generation, with adoption and measured results.
You think about specification, review, testing, CI/CD, release and operations as one system. You can tell where the bottleneck moves when code generation becomes cheap.
You set direction across teams you do not manage, write designs others build on, and are trusted with hard calls on architecture and risk.
You are strong in fundamentals: mobile domain or backend APIs, concurrency, distributed systems, testing, debugging and reliability. You treat AI output as a draft and can show how you check it.
You are fluent in one of backend, iOS or Android and comfortable reaching into the others. You pick up new stacks quickly.
You understand the duty that comes with sensitive personal data and with giving agents access to real systems, and you design for both from the start.
You do well in ambiguity and shape requirements yourself through experiments.
You bring teams along, take input from skeptical engineers, share credit and keep going when experiments fail or tooling changes. You communicate clearly with engineers, managers and non-engineering partners.
Would be a benefit. These are signals of fit, not requirements:
Depth with coding agents, including skills, MCP servers, hooks, sub-agent orchestration and headless runs.
Built evaluation harnesses or benchmarks for coding agents, or LLM-as-judge grading tied to build and test results.
Experience with sandboxed execution at scale, such as ephemeral dev environments, VM or container fleets, or macOS build infrastructure.
Background in developer productivity measurement (DORA, SPACE, DX Core 4) and in turning metrics into decisions without turning them into targets.
Experience shipping mobile apps or in other settings with slow, expensive feedback loops.
Experience in digital health, wearables, MedTech or other privacy-sensitive or regulated products.
Contributions to open-source AI projects, or a portfolio of projects built on the latest agent capabilities.
Experience mentoring engineers or leading an engineering community of practice.
