Description

The company is a billion-dollar global business headquartered in Research Triangle Park, NC, that supplies in-store retail solutions to well-known brands and holds the world's largest installed market share in its field.

This Technical Program Manager (TPgM) sits in Client Solution Delivery and runs complex retail solutions from start to finish. You will align business needs, product strategy and technical execution, keeping work within scope, budget and timeline while holding quality steady in every phase.

The role involves coordinating many teams, managing risk and spending significant time with customers.

Success means hitting key milestones, keeping clients satisfied, meeting KPI targets for timelines, budget and quality, and making teams more efficient with fewer defects and faster delivery over time.

The TPgM is central to delivering scalable, high-quality solutions that meet and exceed client needs.

Responsibilities

  • Run client projects from start to finish so they meet scope, schedule and budget targets.
  • Track risks, dependencies, milestones and deliverables across every project.
  • Make sure client-facing technical solutions support business goals and what the client actually needs.
  • Turn product requirements and technical architecture into one integrated plan that engineering, product and business teams can work from.
  • Serve as the link between technical teams and client stakeholders so everyone understands goals, timelines and deliverables the same way.
  • Lead technical project managers and cross-functional teams to deliver results and strong technical quality.
  • Check work against SDLC steps, engineering practices and quality checkpoints.
  • Run root cause analysis on defects and drive corrective actions that prevent repeats.
  • Meet clients to define scope, gather requirements and agree on expectations.
  • Keep clients regularly and openly informed about progress, risks and outcomes.
  • Resolve client concerns quickly and deliver work that goes beyond what they expected.
  • Keep refining project management processes, tools and methods to improve speed and effectiveness.
  • Ensure the team uses project tools consistently to track progress, risk and quality across the full lifecycle.
  • Define and track KPIs that show whether programs are succeeding.
  • Give executives status updates covering progress, risks and mitigation plans.
  • Lead retrospectives and build a habit of continuous improvement across teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • 12+ years in program and project management, including at least 7 years managing client-facing technical solutions.
  • Proven background in retail technology, point of sale (POS) systems, or custom software delivery.
  • Technical knowledge of system architecture and software development practices, plus an understanding of embedded systems, AI or other relevant technologies.
  • PMP, SAFe, Scrum or similar certification, or a demonstrated plan to earn one or more.
  • Working proficiency in Jira, Confluence, MS Project, Smartsheet and other project management tools.
  • Experience running complex, multi-team projects with a focus on both technical execution and client satisfaction.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaboration and reach consensus across functions.
  • Customer-facing experience and the ability to turn client requirements into workable plans.
  • Results-focused, committed to high-quality delivery within scope, time and budget.
