Description

The team is hiring a senior staff guidance, navigation and control engineer for the Sentinel program in the company's defense systems group.

The role is based in Roy, Utah or Manhattan Beach, California.

As deputy for GNC technical execution, you will take charge of the program's most critical GNC problems and keep the program on schedule, within performance and budget limits, and on a clear technical path.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the most critical GNC issues, from identifying them through resolution and flight test acceleration.
  • Lead root cause investigations, build detailed resolution plans and make sure open actions close on time.
  • Work day to day with several GNC Integrated Product Teams (IPTs).
  • Work with the Office of the Chief Engineer (OCE) to secure approval for schedule acceleration and risk reduction actions.
  • Serve as secondary technical point of contact for NIXAG, the customer's technical leadership interface.
  • Give technical input to NIXAG decisions and help shape Flight Systems inputs such as JCCB packages, Alternate PIGA, trade studies and Measure of Capability (MOC) work.
  • Co-chair design reviews, adjudicate CRMs with the US Government, and coordinate RFAs and responses.
  • Lead GNC-level Material Review Boards (MRBs) and Failure Review Boards (FRBs).
  • Set the technical direction for GNC issues and guide troubleshooting and investigations.
  • Give technical recommendations to IPT, element and segment leads that affect schedule, cost and performance.
  • Make sure the team's work products meet program quality standards and arrive on time.
  • Engage IPTs early in development to spot and prevent critical GNC issues.
  • Drive schedule acceleration and risk mitigation, and secure approval from stakeholders across the organization.
  • Explain complex technical status, risks and decisions to senior leaders and customer representatives.
  • Own all MOC items and flight test acceleration work tied to GNC.
  • Plan tests, collect data and analyze results to verify GNC performance against Level 1 WSS requirements and Program KPPs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace, electrical, mechanical or control engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • At least 14 years of related experience in guidance, navigation and control, or comparable control systems engineering.
  • Must be a US citizen.
  • Active Top Secret clearance at time of application, current and within scope, with an investigation dated within the last 6 years.
  • Ability to obtain and keep Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable time, as the company determines its business needs require.
  • Solid background in designing, building and testing hardware and/or software flight systems.
  • Skill in HW/SW troubleshooting, root cause analysis and failure review processes.
  • Experience leading detailed issue resolution plans from detection through closure.
  • Deep knowledge of GNC hardware, algorithms, accuracy trade studies and embedded electronics.
  • Ability to combine hardware and software views into system-level solutions.
  • Familiarity with MRB and FRB processes, JCCB packages and MOC procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience with JIRA/Confluence or equivalent issue tracking tools.
  • Willing to travel to customer sites and test ranges as needed.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in aerospace, electrical, mechanical, controls or a related engineering field.

  • Preferred: understanding of the GNC systems engineering lifecycle and its development phases.
  • Preferred: inertial sensor performance analysis experience.
  • Preferred: deep knowledge of GNC algorithm development, linear covariance analysis, modeling and simulation, and control systems.
  • Preferred: full software lifecycle experience, covering architecture, development, peer review, verification, performance analysis, implementation, integration, debugging and maintenance.
  • Preferred: experience with real-time operating systems.
  • Preferred: experience designing or analyzing processor architecture, digital electronics, actuator electronics, analog sensor electronics or power electronics.
  • Preferred: C/C++ for embedded code, ideally MISRA C compliant.
