Description

The company was founded in 1982 and serves major clients across several industries with material handling, full-scale warehouse operations, and conveyor design, building each solution around the customer's needs.

This Senior Software Engineer role centers on the company's warehouse execution and control software (WES/WCS), where you will help design, build, and ship products, customer projects, and research work. You report to the VP of Software.

The team works on an event-driven microservices architecture and uses open-source tools for backend services, integrations, AI features, and user interfaces. You will write code yourself and also guide other engineers. Expect about 15% travel to customer sites for commissioning.

The company values reliability, creativity, and a willingness to keep learning. A service-minded attitude helps the team deliver results customers can count on.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the VP of Software to shape product strategy and the roadmap.
  • Design, build, and improve the warehouse software so it meets customer needs and keeps growing.
  • Take on full stack work across the event-driven microservices system.
  • Build backend services, integrations, AI capabilities, and interfaces with current open-source frameworks.
  • Lead design and development for customer projects and research initiatives, following Agile practices and testing discipline.
  • Mentor entry-level and mid-level developers and members of the Software Delivery team.
  • Help the Software Delivery team commission integrated systems at customer sites, travelling about 15% of the time.
  • Pitch in on development, implementation, support, and IT work when the team or a project needs it.
  • Review organizational performance data, spot opportunities to improve, and help adjust team practices.
  • Keep up with relevant technologies and industry changes to support innovation.
  • Represent the company and the Software team with professionalism, ethics, and integrity.

Requirements

  • Five or more years of experience developing industrial software.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with open-source software frameworks and their development tools.
  • Comfort with the Linux command line and with operating system services and configuration.
  • Proficiency with modern IDEs, Git, Microsoft Office, and project tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps.
  • Willingness and ability to travel about 15% to support customer commissioning.
  • Enjoy sharing knowledge, mentoring others, and helping the Software team grow.
  • Communicate clearly and work well with customers, managers, and people from other disciplines.
  • Take ownership of your work and deliver results with little supervision, including under pressure and in fast-moving settings.
  • Solve complex problems creatively and juggle several tasks and projects at once.
  • Reliable, learning-oriented, bold, easy to work with, and a natural problem solver.

Conditions

Expect about 15% travel to customer sites for commissioning work.

Applicants are considered regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, marital status, ancestry, disability, veteran status, gender identity, or sexual orientation, and accommodation is available for disability during the application, testing, or interview process.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and health benefits.
  • 401(k) with a 100% company match up to 5%.
  • Participation in the discretionary profit-sharing program.
  • Flexibility and autonomy in how you work.
  • Community outreach projects throughout the year.
  • Company events, a snack wall, flexible PTO, and a casual, family-like work environment.
