Sr. Project Manager - Water/Wastewater

The team is supporting Orange County Sanitation District (OC San) through its Capital and Small Projects Program, under a staff augmentation and engineering support contract with the company.

The role is a program-level project management position covering planning, coordination and delivery of several water and wastewater capital and small projects at once. It calls for solid experience with municipal water and wastewater infrastructure, owner-side project delivery, and handling many projects and stakeholders at the same time.

You will work with OC San staff, the company's technical teams, and outside consultants and contractors to keep projects on schedule, on budget and aligned with OC San standards and goals. You may support large, complex capital projects and also lead one or more moderately complex projects on your own.

Responsibilities

• These duties include, but are not limited to, the following.
• Help deliver municipal water and/or wastewater capital and small projects at the program level.
• Lead one or more moderately complex projects from planning to closeout, covering scope, schedule, budget and risk.
• Coordinate and oversee every phase of assigned projects so they finish on time, on budget and within scope.
• Provide owner-side project management support, including project controls, scheduling, cost tracking, estimating, procurement coordination and change management.
• Direct and coordinate the work of company technical staff, subconsultants and other support resources.
• Work directly with OC San project managers, engineers, operations staff and leadership.
• Find, assess and reduce project risks, and resolve issues quickly to limit effects on cost, schedule and quality.
• Perform quality control review of design calculations, drawings, specifications and technical documents.
• Take part in interdisciplinary reviews of project deliverables.
• Write project documents such as correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, schedules and status updates.
• Support contractor coordination during construction, including RFIs, submittals and issue resolution.
• You may guide and oversee mid-level and junior engineers or project managers on your assigned projects.
• Work with the company's regional teams as needed to meet OC San program objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related engineering field, plus 6 years of experience in water/wastewater engineering and design, including project analysis, feasibility and budgeting. Demonstrated equivalent experience and/or education is accepted.
• Valid driver's license, and you must pass the company's Motor Vehicle Records review.
• Preferred: Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering.
• Preferred: Registered Professional Engineer in California, or able to obtain registration within six months of hire.
• Preferred: Strong written and oral communication, quantitative and interpersonal skills.
• Preferred: Strong work ethic and a professional manner.
• Preferred: Acts on assignments without prompting and shows initiative.
• Preferred: Works independently with minimal supervision and completes several technical tasks under tight deadlines.
• Preferred: Proficient in CAD and design software such as Civil 3D, Bentley Design Suites, WaterCAD, SewerCAD, ArcGIS and similar tools.

Conditions

This is a hybrid role. You will work from OC San's Fountain Valley office 2-3 days per week, with the rest of your time remote as appropriate.
