The company's systems engineering function sits at the centre of program strategy, owning how system architectures are created, evolved and maintained across the full program lifecycle.
The role calls for a systems architect who has led systems engineering work from start to finish on a program. You will work across disciplines in a matrixed structure and use model-based systems engineering to deliver armament programs that are innovative and robust.
You will lead requirements development, system performance analysis, integration, verification and validation, and help build a team culture that values technical excellence, adaptability and new ideas.
The work matters because it confirms that armament systems meet their technical specifications and perform as intended in operational environments.
Relocation assistance may be available. No security clearance is needed to start, but the role requires a Secret clearance. Travel is about 10% of the time.
Responsibilities
Lead systems engineering across the lifecycle, from concept and requirements through design, integration, verification, validation and sustainment.
Drive collaboration across functions inside a model-based engineering environment.
Lead the design and development of system architectures.
Define the key capabilities and performance requirements for the system.
Create and manage system requirements, specifications and the requirements verification database so every requirement stays traceable through development.
Agree performance objectives with stakeholders so system requirements stay aligned with program goals.
Use advanced systems engineering processes, tools and methods to keep technical performance criteria aligned between customers and stakeholders.
Set design and technology maturity constraints that match customer specifications and support feasibility and reliability.
Define the system's external interfaces so it integrates cleanly with other systems.
Outline the implementation approach and operational concept, with attention to usability and effectiveness.
Adopt and apply current systems engineering tools, including automated requirements management, configuration matrices and compliance verification solutions, to improve efficiency.
Write operational concepts (CONOPS) that tie architecture and design decisions to customer mission objectives.
Run trade studies, sensitivity analyses and performance optimization, and assess opportunities for improvement and innovation across the lifecycle.
Help confirm that systems meet defined performance requirements and quality standards and satisfy stakeholder expectations.
Support verification and validation across systems using advanced simulation and analysis.
Work with systems engineers and customers to confirm all requirements are met and system performance is fully evaluated.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in engineering (electrical, aerospace, computer, mechanical or a related discipline), with 8+ years of related experience; or a Master's degree in a related discipline with 6+ years; or a PhD in a related discipline with 4+ years.
Demonstrated cross-domain leadership in engineering-focused non-profits or organizations.
Strong background in Agile development methods.
Experience using systems engineering tools with embedded AI.
Experience applying systems design principles with AI to develop and integrate advanced solutions.
Experience designing, integrating and verifying complex systems against design specifications and operational or mission requirements.
Experience with model-based systems engineering (MBSE), SysML and the Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
Expertise in systems engineering using Product Line Engineering (PLE) principles and best practices.
Must be a U.S. citizen.
Able to obtain a government Secret clearance; not required to start.
Desired: leadership in systems-of-systems development and integration, managing interfaces, interoperability and dependencies across the lifecycle.
Desired: proven ability to guide systems-of-systems architecture and lifecycle management toward end-to-end mission success.
Desired: experience supporting trade studies and writing requirements for affordability, performance, safety, reliability, maintainability, sustainability and systems security.
Desired: strong background in data analytics methods and tools for better system insight and data-informed decisions during development.
Desired: experience with Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) or Weapon Open Systems Architecture (WOSA).
Desired: experience in aerospace and defense or healthcare.
Desired: certification as a Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP or ESEP, INCOSE).
Desired: certification in a systems engineering modeling language such as SysML or UAF.
