Description

The company is hiring a senior principal cyber systems and network engineer in Chantilly, VA, to join a Mission Systems team of engineers, system administrators and operators.

The role centers on a mission-critical network: monitoring and upkeep, Tier-2 and Tier-3 support, data collection for analysis, network upgrades, and clear documentation with diagrams.

The pace is quick and expectations are high. Assignments vary, and you will work with teams at every technical level to build creative fixes for hard problems.

An active TS/SCI with polygraph is required to be considered, and clearance is required to start.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite engineering and administration support to a team of developers and testers. You may depart from standard industry practice when mission needs call for it, but security standards must still be met.
  • Build, deploy and sustain solutions for mission critical and mission essential infrastructure.
  • Review existing systems and networks, then propose proactive changes that improve efficiency.
  • Work with mission system developers to design and deliver solutions for customer mission needs.
  • Maintain, assess, test and apply STIG configurations to network devices.
  • Handle security findings and break fix events across the infrastructure.
  • Write and keep up network documentation, including standard operating procedures and Visio diagrams.

Requirements

  • Hold an active TS/SCI with polygraph.
  • Hold 8 years of experience with a bachelor's degree, 6 years with a master's, 4 years with a PhD, or 12 years without a degree.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues using the OSI model.
  • Have built ethernet cables, pulled fiber and racked equipment.
  • Have a basic working knowledge of Cisco CLI commands.
  • Have experience with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and the Authority to Operate (ATO) process.
  • Have worked within an integrated team of systems, software and specialty engineers to develop solutions.
  • Preferred: solid understanding of dynamic routing protocols.
  • Preferred: firm grasp of Juniper JunOS commands and/or firewall concepts.
  • Preferred: experience troubleshooting network procedures and best practices, including integration challenges such as COTS integration, and capacity analysis.
  • Preferred: experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Preferred: experience with virtualization technologies such as Red Hat KVM, VMware, libvirt/virsh, Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Preferred: prior contributions to building ATO packages.
  • Preferred: experience in Agile and O&M environments.

Conditions

Base salary range is $156,400.00 to $234,600.00, offered as a general guideline. Final pay depends on scope and responsibilities, experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Travel is about 10% of the time.

Relocation assistance may be available.

Clearance type is polygraph, and clearance is required for start.

The application window is estimated at 20 days from the posting date, but it may be shortened or extended based on business needs and candidate availability.

Benefits

  • Depending on the position, you may be eligible for overtime, shift differential and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and let you share in company results.
  • Vice President and Director roles may be eligible for long-term incentives.
  • Health insurance, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company paid holidays, and paid time off for vacation or personal business.
