The company is a large healthcare business ranked in the Fortune 10, with products and services that help make care more affordable and easier to access.
The Specialty Access & Affordability value stream is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead the FastAuth team. FastAuth speeds up prior authorization for specialty prescriptions, shortening the wait between a prescription being written and a patient starting treatment.
This role suits a leader who can handle a high level of complexity and run several major workstreams at once. You will own delivery, team health, and technical direction for FastAuth, and sit alongside the other engineering leaders in the value stream as a peer on decisions that affect more than your own team. Your engineers work with React front ends,.NET services, and event-driven integrations on Azure, and the team ships continuously and owns what it builds.
Responsibilities
Set goals at the right level across several workstreams, and hold the team to them.
Decide where investment goes across your projects, and shift effort when results are not moving the business forward.
Run efficient SAFe operating cadences, including PI planning, and keep meetings and status work to a minimum.
Remove blockers by fixing their root causes, not just the symptoms.
Make sure delivery does not come at the cost of long-term growth, retention, or psychological safety.
Set a FastAuth vision that fits value stream and company priorities, and bring engineers and cross-functional partners on board.
Work with architects and staff engineers on design choices across TypeScript, React,.NET, Azure, and event-driven architecture.
Resolve conflicts with partner teams and stakeholders who have different goals.
Provide steady leadership during change and help the team work through complexity and uncertainty.
Hire and keep a diverse, talented engineering team, with attention to long-term health of the organization over filling the current opening.
Interview and assess senior candidates, and keep interviewers consistent in their assessments.
Set clear performance expectations, push high performers further, and turn around underperformers.
Plan career growth around each person's goals, and offer stretch work to people who are ready.
Arrange the team so people fit their roles, and plan headcount for sustained success.
Break down silos across engineering, product, design, and quality, and push for the best outcome for the business over a local gain.
Build strong cross-functional relationships, lead the right discussions, and settle disagreements by weighing competing views.
Commit to a decision you did not fully back when it is needed to advance a critical priority.
Remove barriers to inclusion, raise cultural issues early, and follow up until they are resolved.
Communicate clearly in writing and in person, adjusting the message for the audience so the right people stay informed.
Requirements
A degree or equivalent experience, plus typically 10+ years of relevant professional experience including 4+ years in engineering management.
4+ years leading software engineering teams, covering hiring, performance management, and career development.
A record of delivering several concurrent workstreams with real business impact.
A technical background strong enough to hold your own in design discussions on modern web stacks and cloud platforms, ideally TypeScript, React,.NET, and Azure.
A working understanding of event-driven architecture and its tradeoffs.
Experience working in a scaled agile environment such as SAFe or an equivalent, including planning across teams.
A data-driven approach to delivery health, using flow metrics such as throughput, cycle time, and predictability.
A proven ability to drive adoption of AI tools in engineering workflows.
The ability to resolve cross-team disagreements directly rather than escalating each one.
Clear written and spoken communication that works for both engineers and executives.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Preferred: experience with healthcare applications, particularly EHR integrations.
Preferred: experience in prior authorization, pharmacy, or payer domains.
