Description

The company is building a new robotic system for minimally invasive biopsy of the peripheral lung, with the first goal of helping doctors diagnose lung cancer earlier.

This senior algorithm role leads the technical work of conceiving, designing and evaluating the next generation of planning and guidance software.

The work centers on algorithms that analyze chest medical images for complex lung diseases, combining CT, CBCT and X-ray data to segment lung structures, support navigation and localize targets, with the aim of better clinical outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Take medical imaging analysis software from early research ideas to robust commercial medical device products.
  • Design, prototype and build advanced imaging and machine learning methods for lung segmentation, registration, target localization, breathing anomaly detection and airway analysis.
  • Adapt and tune current architectures, including nnU-Net, Vision Transformers, DINO, diffusion models and Vision Language Models, for clinical datasets.
  • Build deployment pipelines that move trained models into fast C++ production code, using quantization, pruning and hardware acceleration to reach real-time speed on constrained medical systems.
  • Help with system integration and testing, and write formal design documents and patent applications.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on industry experience developing algorithms, with deep expertise in medical imaging and computer vision.
  • Track record of shipping commercial AI/ML software products (bonus).
  • Expert-level Python and C++, with a solid grasp of modern component design for production software.
  • Proven hands-on use of PyTorch, OpenCV, MONAI, ITK, VTK, and optimization tools such as TensorRT or ONNX.
  • Experience or knowledge applying Good Machine Learning Practice (GMLP) to AI/ML features, including data representativeness and model transparency.
  • Strong spoken and written communication for working with clinical and engineering colleagues.

Conditions

The company or its customers may require current proof of vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID-19; requirements vary by role.

Some roles may fall under US export controls for candidates who are nationals of embargoed or sanctioned countries. An export license can take 3 to 6+ months, and a Technology Control Plan typically adds 2 weeks. Final offers depend on an approved license and/or an executed Technology Control Plan before the start date.

Candidates with arrest or conviction records are considered in line with fair chance laws.

Preference goes to candidates who do not live, and do not plan to live, in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina or Tennessee.

The level may differ from the one listed, depending on business need and the candidate's experience, knowledge and skills. Pay depends mainly on the level the role is filled at and the candidate's qualifications, consistent with applicable law.
