Description

You will join senior engineers to help build key parts of the evaluation strategy for the company's autonomous vehicle programs.

Your work will focus on speeding up testing and evaluation of the self-driving stack by applying AI and ML methods in software.

You will design and run experiments, then ship the resulting solutions as production-grade code that feeds directly into iterating on and validating the self-driving stack.

The AV Simulation team builds testing and analysis tools for three groups: AV developers who check how their code changes vehicle behavior, data engineers who build pipelines that produce useful insights for evaluation, and release staff who track top-level performance across releases.

Responsibilities

  • Apply AI and ML techniques to expand testing, rate autonomy performance, and find critical scenarios, bringing in humans in the loop where it makes sense.
  • Work with engineers to plug ML models into simulation tests and evaluation pipelines.
  • Learn the codebase and the domain quickly, and complete assigned work with few revision cycles.
  • Build, test, and deploy production-ready code across the simulation infrastructure.
  • Frame problems clearly and build solutions that weigh tradeoffs and handle edge cases.
  • Work with cross-functional partners, take part in design and code reviews, and keep integration smooth through clear communication.

Requirements

  • Be currently enrolled in a bachelor's degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Have at least one more quarter or semester of school left after the internship ends.
  • Have a solid grasp of modern machine learning techniques.
  • Show coursework, research, or projects in AI and ML.
  • Program well in Python.
  • Be able to work full-time, 40 hours per week.
  • Preferred: be currently enrolled in a master's degree in computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, engineering, or a related STEM field.
  • Preferred: have exposure to deep learning architectures such as Transformers, CNNs, or diffusion models.
  • Preferred: have hands-on experience with at least one ML framework such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, or Keras.
  • Preferred: have a background in robotics and computer vision from projects or research.
  • Preferred: be familiar with multimodal learning or work with sensor data.
  • Preferred: have interest in publications, open-source projects, or patents.
  • Preferred: know a systems language such as C++ or Java.
  • Preferred: plan to return to a degree program after the internship.
  • Preferred: you do not need to meet every preferred item, since the needs of a specific Autonomous Vehicles team decide which skills matter most.
