Description

The company is building the next generation of embedded platform software that delivers advanced ADAS features to customers.

The Autonomy Interface Software team builds camera data pipelines for autonomous vehicles, and this senior Camera ISP engineer role sits within it.

You will work with camera hardware, embedded software, systems, Embodied AI and technical program management staff, plus outside imager vendors, to make sure cameras are designed, built and tuned to a high standard.

You will work with an embedded software team to bring Camera ISP functions up on new hardware.

The work is hosted in hundreds of self-driving cars.

Responsibilities

  • Tune the camera Image Signal Processing (ISP) for autonomous vehicle use cases.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and external vendors on specifications, system definition, software, and image quality tuning and evaluation.
  • Plan and run objective and subjective image quality tests using lab charts and real-world scenes, choosing suitable metrics for each. Use Imatest and other chart or scene analysis methods, and build GM-specific test scripts and IQ specification analysis tools.
  • Use your understanding of image sensors to set up HDR sensor modes and ISP settings for autonomous driving, aligning goals and success measures across the EAI, system and sensor teams.
  • Work with sensor validation and vehicle fleet teams on ISP characterization, image quality tuning and evaluation, and fixing image quality problems.
  • Work with machine learning engineers and hardware teams to design a sensing strategy for autonomous vehicles at scale.
  • Develop new techniques and run studies to improve ISP performance for machine perception.

Requirements

  • A BS, MS or PhD in imaging science, electrical engineering, computer science or a similar field, plus 4+ years of hands-on experience with camera ISP tuning and evaluation.
  • Hands-on experience tuning ISP modules: AE, AWB, HDR processing, noise reduction and sharpness, tone mapping and color.
  • Experience with different ISP architectures and camera development.
  • Experience characterizing image sensors and tuning their settings.
  • Experience with at least one image quality evaluation tool, Imatest preferred.
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or Python.
  • Experience with image processing and data analysis.

Conditions

Hybrid role: you are expected to be on site at a specific location at least 3 days a week, or as your manager sets.

Travel of less than 25% is required.

Base pay is expected to be $174,900 to $250,200, and actual pay depends on factors relevant to the position.

The pay figure is a good faith estimate under applicable state law and may not reflect roles outside New York, Colorado, California or Washington.

Relocation benefits are available to candidates who qualify under company policy.

The company is an equal opportunity employer.

Benefits

  • An incentive pay program pays out based on company performance, job level and individual performance.
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage, a Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, a retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, and paid vacation and holidays.
