Description

The company is a fast-growing startup that applies AI and technology to nuclear and energy projects, using a fleet approach to design and build the next generation of reactors.

Every employee is expected to use AI, technology, and the company's internal operating platform as part of their daily work, and to look for ways to automate workflows and improve decisions and processes.

The United States is rebuilding its nuclear power capacity, and the company builds the software behind reactor construction, covering regulation, supply chain, cost, schedule, and field work.

You will join the Product Security team to help secure the internal platform and the cloud systems behind it, working with security and software engineers across application security, cloud security, and governance, risk, and compliance (GRC).

You might help review a new product feature from a security angle, strengthen a cloud control, improve a detection, or gather evidence against a cybersecurity framework. You will have a mentor and can own a scoped project from design through delivery.

This is a six-month Spring 2027 co-op based in Washington, DC.

Responsibilities

  • Write scripts, tools, and automation that help engineering teams build secure software.
  • Find and assess security risks in applications, APIs, AWS workloads, and development pipelines.
  • Take part in threat modeling, design and code reviews, and security testing, guided by the team.
  • Improve security visibility and detections for cloud workloads and the software the company runs.
  • Check findings from security tools, confirm their impact, and help engineers ship practical fixes.
  • Write up your work so other teams can use and maintain it.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field, available for the full [Flexible] month term and returning to school afterward.
  • Have completed a working technical project through coursework, independent work, a student team, or a prior internship.
  • Can explain technical work clearly and learn from engineers in other disciplines.
  • You must be a U.S. Person, meaning a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, because the role involves information and technology subject to U.S. export controls, including DOE and NRC requirements. The company does not sponsor visas for this role.
  • Preferred: a project involving application security, cloud security, security automation, detection engineering, or AI-enabled cyber defense.
  • Preferred: interest in AI-enabled software, energy, national security, industrial software, or regulated industries. Nuclear engineering experience is not required.
  • Preferred: programming fundamentals in at least one language such as Python, TypeScript, Java, or Go.

Conditions

Work on-site three days a week in Washington, DC.

The estimated starting rate is $25.00 per hour, paid every two weeks, less applicable withholdings and deductions.

The actual offer may vary at the company's discretion based on factors such as experience, qualifications, skills, location, and candidate availability.

Benefits

  • A $2,000 monthly housing stipend.
