Description

The company is a fast-growing startup that uses AI and technology in the nuclear and energy sector. It builds next-generation nuclear reactors using a fleet-scale approach: design once, then build many.

Every employee is expected to use AI, technology, and the company's internal operating system in their daily work. You will look for ways to automate workflows, improve decisions and processes, and help that system evolve.

The team looks for people who are motivated by purpose, comfortable with uncertainty, and interested in building things that have never been built. Stated values are Transparency, Responsibility, Unity, Scrappy, and Tenacity, and they shape how the team hires and works. Safety culture, known as TRUST, centres on honesty, accountability, and open communication.

The role involves designing, building, and maintaining complex software for safety-critical systems. The work supports clean energy and must meet high standards for performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and build of robust, scalable, high-quality software for critical nuclear applications, including new features, clean and efficient code, and code reviews.
  • Guide junior and mid-level engineers, coaching them on software practice, quality, and industry standards.
  • Work with hardware, control systems, and other software teams so software integrates reliably with physical systems and external interfaces.
  • Put rigorous quality assurance into practice and advocate for it, covering testing, debugging, and documentation, while keeping to nuclear regulations and internal standards.
  • Find and fix complex performance problems so the software runs efficiently under demanding conditions.
  • Solve hard technical problems, propose new approaches, and carry solutions from concept to deployment.
  • Write and maintain thorough technical documentation, including design specifications, architecture diagrams, and test protocols.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • 4+ years of progressive software development experience with a solid record of delivered projects.
  • Experience building software for highly regulated, safety-critical, or mission-critical industries such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, medical devices, or automotive safety.
  • Proficiency in at least one relevant language, such as JavaScript, TypeScript, or Python.
  • Hands-on experience across full software development life cycles, including Agile and Waterfall.
  • Strong grasp of software design patterns, data structures, and algorithms.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Skill in designing and implementing complex software architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of software quality assurance principles and testing methods.
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot intricate software systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, including explaining technical ideas to varied audiences.
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Preferred: direct nuclear industry experience.
  • Preferred: experience building offline-capable, air-gapped, or otherwise disconnected applications and packaging them for constrained or containerized deployment.
  • Preferred: hands-on experience integrating third-party physical security systems.
  • Preferred: experience putting AI features and ML models into production workflows.
  • Preferred: exposure to nuclear, critical infrastructure, defense, or physical security domains.

Conditions

The estimated starting salary is $121,000 to $143,000 per year, paid bi-weekly, less applicable withholdings and deductions.

The actual offer may vary based on factors the company decides, such as experience, qualifications, tenure, skill set, candidate availability, location, certifications, and other relevant criteria.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation packages.
  • 401k with company match.
  • Medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Generous vacation policy plus holidays.
