Description

You will build, integrate and maintain clinical databases and clinical operational systems, and set up study systems including transformations, integrations, edit checks, reports and user testing, in line with standards and study documentation.

You will help govern cross-study programming environments, covering libraries, code baselines and terminologies, plus in-life support and change and incident tracking, while pushing for ongoing improvement. The role sits within GDMS (Global Data Management and Standards) and is a regular position.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain clinical technology such as EDC, RTSM and eCOA/ePRO, with moderate guidance, using programming, reporting and automation tools while keeping quality and compliance.
  • Implement and validate complex data logic such as edit checks, derivations and dynamic rules, using scripting and validation frameworks, with guidance as needed.
  • Propose and build tools that speed up design, build and validation work.
  • Apply data literacy to turn collected data into insights you can act on.
  • Build advanced reports such as dashboards, listings and visual analytics on enterprise platforms, using reusable components and role-based access.
  • Configure, test and validate data sources for integrations and transformations across internal and external systems, following standard procedures and seeking guidance when needed.
  • Work with stakeholders to turn business needs into data and system requirements.
  • Fix routine data ingestion and consumption problems with standard methods, and escalate non-routine issues to senior colleagues.
  • Build robust data models, semantic layers and curated datasets, monitor pipelines and apply quality checks, with moderate guidance.
  • Check system functionality and confirm compliance with SOPs and regulations.
  • Find process gaps and contribute to continuous improvement.
  • Keep change and incident documentation current so the work stays audit ready.
  • Mentor junior colleagues, share best practice, and support onboarding and training.
  • Support release management across data management and clinical operations, including change control and risk assessment.
  • Convert requirements into technical specifications, lead UAT, collect feedback and raise reporting standards.
  • Turn data and technical findings into clear, actionable stories for other teams.
  • Act as a dependable partner to GDMS and cross-functional teams by asking for input, agreeing priorities and closing feedback loops.

Requirements

  • Technical: foundational to intermediate skill in more than one programming language such as SQL, Python, SAS or R, used for clinical data collection, integrations, transformations, reporting and visualization.
  • Technical: working proficiency with data-management tools such as data capture, review, reconciliation, reporting or validation tools, and willingness to learn new technologies with guidance.
  • Technical: able to carry out straightforward technical tasks alone, seek moderate guidance on non-standard work, and script and automate ingestion, cleaning and reporting with established methods.
  • Strong working knowledge of how clinical data are collected, processed, reviewed, reconciled and reported across the study lifecycle.
  • Familiarity with common clinical and regulatory data standards, clinical operations and typical clinical trial data sources such as electronic forms, external feeds and operational systems.
  • Knowledge of the system development lifecycle and validation practices, including change control, release checklists and traceability from requirements to test evidence.
  • Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP), data integrity and audit-ready documentation, plus familiarity with UAT and sign-off processes.
  • Experience tuning report performance (query tuning, filters and parameters) and applying data quality controls to reporting and analytics.
  • Able to link business outcomes to technical work on straightforward problems, following standard procedures and asking for guidance on complex cases.
  • Non-technical: manage priorities and deadlines, and keep clear records of assumptions, decisions and next steps.
  • Non-technical: communicate well in writing and orally with technical and business partners and external providers, adjusting style to the audience.
  • Non-technical: work independently with minimal guidance, triage issues using data, flag risks early and propose options.
  • Non-technical: collaborate across functions, run small working sessions, follow through on actions and build positive working relationships while staying open to feedback.
  • Leadership: Execution Excellence, meaning a focus on self-development, openness to feedback, fast skill building and continuous learning.
  • Leadership: Decision Making, meaning analyzing problems with qualitative and quantitative information, weighing tradeoffs and deciding on time.
  • Leadership: Networking and Partnerships, meaning learning about the company, its processes and its clients, and working across teams to get results.
  • Required skills: Clinical Databases, Clinical Data Cleaning, Clinical Data Management, Clinical Development, Continuous Improvement Techniques, Data Analysis, Database Development, Data Ingestion, Data Literacy, Data Processing, Data Quality Assurance, Data Review, Data Validation, Data Visualization, Electronic Data Capture (EDC), Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Pharmacovigilance, Release Management, User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Education and experience, any one of the following: a non-degree with at least 4 years in clinical data programming, data engineering, or related data-management or clinical operations work; an Associate's Degree with at least 3 years in the same areas (minimum preferred); a Bachelor's Degree with at least 2 years in the same areas; or a Masters or Doctorate with prior experience in clinical development and/or the same data areas (preferred).
