Solution Architect IT/OT

Description

Help shape the secure digital foundations behind laboratories and plants where new science reaches production.

The role is a solution architect position for IT/OT, focused on Digital Labs, Digital Plant and scientific data connectivity inside the company's Technical Research and Development area.

Initial work centres on the company's OT security reference architecture (NORA) and SPINE Connect, turning infrastructure, security and business needs into secure, compliant designs.

The role is business-facing and collaborative: you take ownership of architectural problems, align stakeholders, clear blockers and build approaches that can be reused across sites rather than solved one site at a time.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement NORA-compliant architectures for Technical Research and Development laboratory and plant systems.
• Create and maintain inventories of IT/OT systems, components, connections and vendor-managed assets.
• Shape how the Manufacturing Execution System and Historian integrate with SPINE, alongside Digital Labs and Digital Plant architecture.
• Turn infrastructure and security requirements into practical, reusable patterns for labs and plants.
• Work with infrastructure, security, quality, site, vendor and delivery teams to make architecture decisions workable in practice.
• Produce architecture decision records, diagrams, decision logs, migration-readiness views and reusable integration patterns.
• Make sure designs cover regulatory impact, performance, supportability, operational continuity, monitoring and security by design.

Requirements

• 10+ years of IT experience, including at least 3 years in architecture or solution design.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Solid background in IT/OT architecture, manufacturing technology, laboratory systems, infrastructure or OT security.
• Understanding of OT network segmentation, industrial connectivity, identity models, endpoint standards and secure vendor access.
• Experience in regulated or validated environments, ideally pharmaceutical, life sciences, laboratory or manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture and enterprise integration technologies.
• Familiarity with laboratory and manufacturing platforms such as LIMS, ELN, MES, Historian and vendor-managed systems.
• Ability to turn technical and security requirements into clear architecture decisions and to engage both business and technical stakeholders.
• Desirable: architecture certification such as TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect or a comparable qualification.
• Desirable: experience writing architecture specifications, decision records, integration views, inventories and implementation guardrails.

Conditions

Onsite role based in Barcelona, Spain; Slovenia is also listed as a location.

Salary range: €41,900.00 to €77,700.00.

Relocation support is not offered, so apply only if you can work from Barcelona without it.
