Description

You will be a computational scientist in the Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease (CVM) research organization within Biomedical Research in Cambridge, MA.

Your work applies human genetics, statistical genetics and genomic data science to find new therapeutic targets and guide patient selection across CVM diseases.

You will work with geneticists, computational biologists, disease specialists, translational researchers and clinical development colleagues to turn genetic and genomic data into practical insights.

The role supports innovative drug discovery and genetically informed precision medicine.

This is an on-site position.

Responsibilities

  • Run analyses of whole exome and whole genome sequencing data to find variants, genes and biological pathways linked to cardiovascular and metabolic illness.
  • Build and apply statistical genetics and bioinformatics methods for variant annotation, association and burden testing, rare-variant work, causal inference and gene ranking.
  • Help identify, assess and validate new therapeutic targets using human genetic evidence and other genomic resources.
  • Shape patient selection and stratification plans for research and clinical programs, including defining genetically based patient subgroups.
  • Combine genetic findings with transcriptomic, proteomic, functional genomic, clinical and other data to build disease and target understanding.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to set analysis approaches, interpret results and turn them into clear scientific advice.
  • Write reproducible, well documented workflows and help set good practice for genomic data analysis.
  • Report findings through talks, written reports, scientific papers and internal project updates.
  • Keep up with progress in human genetics, statistical genetics, genomic medicine and computational methods used in drug discovery.

Requirements

  • Either a PhD with 2-3+ years, or an MS with 6+ years, of industry work in human genetics, statistical genetics, computational biology, bioinformatics, epidemiology, biostatistics or a related area.
  • Postdoctoral research is preferred.
  • Proven hands-on work with whole exome or genome sequencing data, covering variant quality control, annotation, filtering, association testing and interpretation.
  • Solid grasp of human and statistical genetics, including rare-variant analysis and genotype-phenotype links.
  • Familiarity with genome-wide association, phenome-wide association, polygenic risk scoring, Mendelian randomization or functional genomics methods.
  • Experience combining genomic data with clinical, molecular or multi-omic datasets.
  • Skilled in Python or R, and comfortable working in Linux or Unix environments.
  • Knowledge of Git, collaborative coding and reproducible research practice.
  • Able to handle large genomic datasets and apply suitable statistical and computational methods to reach sound biological conclusions.
  • Strong skills in scientific communication, teamwork and problem solving.
  • Preferred: experience using human genetic evidence for target discovery, target validation or drug development.
  • Also listed: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Biostatistics, Change Management, Curious Mindset, Data Governance, Data Literacy, Data Quality, Data Science, Data Visualization, Deep Learning, Generative AI, Graph Algorithms, Learning Agility, Logistic Regression Models, Machine Learning (ML), Machine Learning Algorithms, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Pandas Python Library, Python (Programming Language), R Programming, Stakeholder Engagement, Statistical Analysis, Structured Query Language (SQL), Time Series Analysis.

Conditions

The role is in Cambridge, MA and cannot be done remotely, so apply only if you can work from that area.
