Description

The company is hiring a software engineering manager to lead development of core platform operating system and driver software for reliable, scalable, high-performance compute platforms.

The role builds and leads a team covering platform OS software, board support packages, hardware abstraction layers and device drivers.

The ideal candidate has a solid technical base in embedded systems and low-level software, plus a track record of leading people.

You will own execution across platform bring-up, software integration, performance and stability, working closely with hardware, systems, validation, product and program teams.

This is an L8 Software Engineering Manager role with a flexible hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and grow a team of software engineers across platform OS, BSP, kernel-level software, hardware abstraction layers and device drivers.
  • Set technical direction and execution priorities for low-level platform software.
  • Drive bring-up of new hardware and software releases.
  • Oversee development, integration and upkeep of drivers for compute, storage, networking, sensor and peripheral interfaces.
  • Work with hardware, silicon, systems, middleware, validation and program teams to deliver stable platform capabilities on time.
  • Set up engineering processes for design reviews, code quality, debugging, root cause analysis, test coverage and release readiness.
  • Clear blockers for the team and balance schedule, scope, technical risk and quality.
  • Guide architecture decisions that improve portability, scalability, diagnosability, security and long-term maintainability.
  • Mentor engineers and tech leads, plan succession, and build a high-performing culture centred on ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Track milestones, risks, dependencies and measurable outcomes.
  • Lead resolution of complex system problems spanning software, hardware, integration and performance.
  • Work with recruiting and leadership to grow the organisation and hire strong embedded and platform engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years in embedded, systems, platform software or low-level Linux development.
  • 2+ years of engineering management or technical team leadership.
  • Strong embedded C and C++ skills.
  • Solid grasp of operating systems, kernel concepts, multithreading, memory management, device drivers and hardware-software interfaces.
  • Experience with Linux, embedded Linux, RTOS or similar platform environments.
  • Experience with board bring-up, BSP development, driver integration and system-level debugging.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering work across hardware and software teams.
  • Strong debugging and root cause analysis across complex distributed or embedded systems.
  • Excellent communication, execution and people leadership skills.
  • Nice to have: a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Nice to have: experience with automotive, ADAS, autonomy, robotics or safety-critical embedded systems, or equivalent work experience.
  • Nice to have: experience with ARM-based SoCs, boot flows, secure boot, power management and performance optimisation.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with kernel instrumentation, tracing, profiling and observability tools.
  • Nice to have: experience with CI/CD, automated test infrastructure and release management for platform software.
  • Nice to have: experience leading globally distributed teams.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with functional safety, cybersecurity and production-quality development practices.
  • You work well at both technical depth and organisational leadership level.
  • You build strong teams without lowering the bar on engineering quality.
  • You make decisions with incomplete information and align several stakeholders.
  • You turn complex platform problems into clear priorities, plans and business outcomes.
  • You bring urgency, ownership and a drive for continuous improvement.
