Software Engineer - Level 2 or 3 - Space AHT

Description

The team builds and maintains the flight software for a missile defense system that protects the US, and the work is done in the GMD Weapon System Fire Control group. The code base is about 1.5 million lines and handles threat evaluation and management.

The algorithms are built on complex mathematics and physics and will be closely watched by the customer, the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).

Responsibilities

• Work with colleagues to understand, build and test current and new capabilities and algorithms.
• Help modernize the code and, where needed, translate Ada code to C++.
• Review requirements and test cases written for the fire control software team.
• Turn complex math and physics-based solutions into working software.

Requirements

• Level 2: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited university plus 2 years of related work experience, or a master's degree with 0-2 years of related work experience.
• Level 3: a bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited university plus 5 years of related work experience, or a master's degree plus 3 years, or a PhD in STEM plus 1 year of related work experience.
• Recent and substantial experience writing software in Ada, C++ or Java.
• Willingness to become highly skilled in Ada development.
• A strong background in mathematics and physics.
• A proven record of understanding complex algorithms and turning them into code.
• Ability and willingness to work on-site in a closed area.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% to meet business needs.
• A current, active DoD-issued Secret clearance at the time you apply. It is required to start.
• Preferred: an advanced degree in mathematics or physics.
• Preferred: experience with Linux, scripting and operations.
• Preferred: experience with the MDA Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) program.
• Preferred: experience with Agile project tools (Jira, Confluence) and DevSecOps tools and methods (Jenkins, Ansible, Git, Bitbucket) for CI/CD automation.

Conditions

Travel is required, up to 10% of the time.

The role is on-site in a closed-area environment.

Secret clearance is required before the start date.

The base salary range is $87,600.00 to $131,400.00. This is a general guide, and the final offer depends on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills and market conditions.
