Description

The company is an energy business with 21,000 colleagues across several brands. It covers making, storing, moving, selling and repairing energy, and is working toward an energy system that does not depend on fossil fuels.

Technology is a core part of the company's strategy. The team is modernising platforms, strengthening cyber and operational resilience, and working in a product-led way with engineers, data specialists and business experts.

This role sits in the Field Operations Platform, on a team that forecasts and schedules colleague availability to meet customer demand. The goal is to dispatch engineers with the right skills to customer sites efficiently. You will work in Field Platform Engineering squads to build, test and deploy software.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test and maintain high-quality software across the Field Operations Platform.
  • Write secure, well-structured and maintainable code that meets agreed functional and non-functional requirements and follows engineering standards and good practice.
  • Work in a cross-functional squad with Product, QA, Architecture and Operations to deliver outcomes for customers and the business.
  • Take part in code reviews, design discussions and technical refinement, giving useful input and learning from others.
  • Own the quality of your work through automated tests, peer review and early defect fixing.
  • Help run live services by contributing to incident investigation, root cause analysis and ongoing platform improvements.
  • Keep building your skills and your understanding of the platform, tools and domain, with a willingness to learn in both delivery and development.
  • Follow security, compliance and data protection requirements so customer and business data is handled responsibly.
  • Own agreed work items to a high standard, raise risks and blockers early, and help the team deliver.
  • Stakeholders you will work with include Software Engineering Managers, Principal Software Engineers, Product, Security and Infrastructure teams.
  • Make technical and product decisions that weigh trade-offs and aim for customer impact, performance, reliability and development efficiency. You own decisions on application development and help shape architecture and strategy across the wider product space.
  • Use data, analytics, insight and automated test results to guide decisions and set priorities.
  • Work within engineering, security, privacy and governance frameworks, and help refine them so delivery is faster and safer.
  • Make timely decisions that balance innovation and risk, so the team can deliver value quickly without lowering quality.
  • Check automated outputs using your judgement and engineering expertise, so they are accurate, safe and used ethically.
  • Focus on robustness, privacy, maintainability and customer trust, rather than on specific technologies that may change over time.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a software engineer in a cross-functional delivery team on a modern product or platform.
  • Working knowledge of modern engineering practice, including source control, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing and code review.
  • Experience writing secure, maintainable, well-tested code, understanding non-functional requirements such as performance, resilience and scalability.
  • Familiarity with cloud-native concepts such as event-driven architecture, asynchronous processing and managed services.
  • Experience supporting live services, including incident investigation, defect resolution and continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of security, data protection and compliance principles for customer platforms and enterprise systems.
  • Ability to analyse problems, troubleshoot issues and contribute to technical solutions with appropriate guidance.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with engineers, product managers, QE and other stakeholders.
  • Hands-on experience with C, C Entity Framework, APIs and web services, Dynamics plugins, JavaScript and HTML.
  • Hands-on experience with Dynamics 365, Dataverse, workflow assemblies, PCF controls, FetchXML and web resources.
  • Hands-on experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, Azure Functions and Logic Apps.
