Description

The company has operated for over 25 years and serves merchants and consumers in about 200 markets, with the aim of making money movement, selling, and shopping simpler and safer.

The company runs a two-sided network at large scale, linking hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers for online and in-person payments. It owns proprietary payment solutions that merchants accept, and it handles funds transfers, withdrawals, authorization, settlement, payouts, returns, and risk management.

The team keeps the Kubernetes production environment of one of the largest payment platforms fast, reliable, and efficient. It builds in-house systems that use machine learning, data analysis, automation, and AI to run a very large production cluster at its best.

The systems you help build will serve millions of users and handle billions of dollars in transactions. You will own meaningful parts of the platform, write production code in Go, Java, and Python, and see the effect of your work quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out tasks across the software development lifecycle, with guidance and review from more experienced engineers.
  • Follow established internal conventions and standard procedures.
  • Apply internal standards and processes when making technical decisions.
  • Work with peers, your manager, and the project lead to understand tasks and review solutions.
  • Contribute to code and design reviews where relevant.
  • Design, build, and run parts of the in-house platform that keep the Kubernetes environment efficient.
  • Use machine learning, data analysis, and AI methods to improve how the cluster runs.
  • Build automation that cuts manual operational work and raises reliability.
  • Study system behavior and performance at scale to find ways to gain efficiency and reduce cost.
  • Work with application and platform or infrastructure teams to improve how services run on the platform.
  • Share operational ownership of the systems you build, leading root cause analysis and lasting fixes.
  • Help raise engineering quality across the team through design and code reviews.
  • Take on well-scoped projects independently, and break down larger, unclear problems with help from senior engineers.

Requirements

  • At least 1 year of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • Preferred: experience with cloud platforms, especially Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Preferred: experience managing or operating large-scale clusters or production infrastructure.
  • Preferred: experience applying machine learning or statistical methods to operational or infrastructure problems.
  • Preferred: experience building automation for production systems.
  • Preferred: familiarity with observability tooling, including metrics, tracing, and logging.

Conditions

The base pay depends on work location, relevant experience, and expertise. The pay range in San Jose, California is $116,500.00 to $173,250.00 per year, and in Scottsdale, Arizona it is $100,500.00 to $149,600.00 per year.

Additional compensation may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive pay, where applicable.

The role is hybrid: 3 days in the office for in-person collaboration, and 2 days either in the office or at home, at your choice.

Travel is 0 percent.

Equal employment opportunity applies to all people regardless of age, color, national origin, citizenship status, disability, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or other legally protected characteristic, and reasonable accommodations are provided for people with disabilities.

Benefits

  • Large production scale: efficiency gains here translate directly into reliability and cost savings.
  • Build core platform technology in-house rather than only configuring off-the-shelf tools.
  • Systems engineering, machine learning, data analysis, AI, and automation all play a part in daily work.
  • Work alongside strong engineers, receive mentorship, and grow your scope and impact.
  • Choice-based wellbeing programs covering physical, emotional, and financial health.
  • Generous paid time off, healthcare coverage for you and your family, and resources for financial security and mental health support.
