Description

You will join a team that builds and maintains engineering solutions for a major global bank, ranked fifth in North America by branch count, which serves more than 27 million households and businesses in Canada, the United States and beyond.

The company has more than 95,000 colleagues. Candidates of interest are contacted by the recruiter to arrange an interview, and outcomes are shared by email or phone.

Responsibilities

  • Build new solutions for engineering programs and projects in your assigned area.
  • Write new features and run unit and component tests for new applications, aligned to business needs and the technology architecture standards.
  • Carry out small enhancements and break-fix changes, including source code edits, to support business requests. You may also review teammates' code.
  • Partner with technology vendors to make sure configurations and custom components meet application requirements and performance targets.
  • Assess technical requirements and propose practical, sound engineering solutions for your area. You may help estimate coding effort and stories.
  • Work with stakeholders and internal technology partners so engineering solutions meet technical direction, requirements, performance, time-to-market and innovation goals.
  • Track product lifecycles and confirm that specifications and functionality support business goals and engineering decisions, redeveloping where needed.
  • Document and verify system components, applications, infrastructure, security, integration, operability and architecture designs for programs and projects.
  • Join quality reviews, especially of designs, prototypes and other requirements deliverables, to confirm they meet requirements.
  • Write high-quality, defect-free code that follows standards. Maintain and support code through testing cycles and after production deployment, and review peers' code.
  • Give technical guidance during incidents: review incident reports and outages, assess impact, and communicate internally and externally until resolved.
  • Help identify and recommend development, testing solutions and tools that support project and application goals.
  • Help build and maintain processes that prevent issues, and take part in diagnosing problems and resolving incidents promptly with suitable quality checks.

Requirements

  • A undergraduate or postgraduate degree, or a technical certificate, in computer science or software engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience with UI development, Java, RESTful APIs, Spring, Spring Boot and Angular.
  • 5+ years of experience with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, and/or NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cosmos DB.
  • 5+ years using Git-based source control tools such as GitHub or Bitbucket.
  • 5+ years of Agile delivery using Scrum or Kanban.
  • 5+ years working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Proactive and organized, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Credit decisioning experience is a strong asset.
  • A self-starter who spots what needs doing and takes initiative to create value.
  • Willing to learn: you see gaps in knowledge as a chance to grow.
  • Goal oriented: you understand why your work matters and how it fits the bigger picture.
  • Highly analytical: you can break a problem down and explain it so others can follow.
  • Solid technical foundation that transfers to new tools. You do not need expertise in every technology the company uses, but you learn new ones quickly.
  • Time management: you deliver on time, especially when others depend on your work.
  • Interpersonal communication: you communicate clearly, often and effectively with teammates and clients.
  • Team leading experience is a strong asset.
