The company is part of a larger group founded in 1871, which reported €19.7 billion in sales for 2025 and has around 78,000 employees in 54 countries and markets.
This is a software engineering job centred on building data platform components that run in production. You will design and run services, APIs, and data pipelines inside a CI/CD workflow.
This role is not for notebook-driven or analytics-first work.
You will join a global data engineering team that serves all major business domains and works with business IT, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and architecture colleagues.
Responsibilities
Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, fault-tolerant ingestion pipelines from many sources, including SAP, Salesforce, SharePoint, APIs, and legacy manufacturing platforms.
Build and extend metadata-driven data handling components and inbound and outbound interfaces, and own them end to end in production.
Write reusable, version-controlled platform components, APIs, and data interfaces that follow engineering practice: CI/CD, automated tests, version control, and monitoring.
Build fault-tolerant, observable pipelines with logging, alerting, and failure handling.
Build and maintain Python or Scala extraction services, such as Debezium Server, custom APIs, and rclone.
Implement CDC, delta, and event-based loading patterns.
Build and improve a push-based HTTP data lake transfer component that uses Kerberos authentication.
Connect to Salesforce, SharePoint, and other API or file endpoints.
Set up, run, and troubleshoot SAP extraction with Theobald Extract Universal.
Build the backend of a web-accessible data catalog, covering metadata management and integration with platform components.
Use Unity Catalog as the metadata backend for dataset discovery, preview and exploration, and lineage.
Design and build structured access request workflows with submission, approval chains, audit trail, and enablement triggers.
Run design reviews with cybersecurity.
Document all interfaces and data entry points, and handle audit and traceability requirements.
Turn requirements from IT and business users into scalable technical patterns.
Act as the technical escalation point for complex source integrations.
Define and implement a multi-layer data quality framework covering unit, integration, and cross-pipeline validation rules.
Keep data quality rules centrally stored and version controlled, and connect them to orchestration and CI/CD.
Monitor data quality automatically with severity levels Critical, High, Medium, and Low, and add flagging, filtering, and quarantine logic at the right pipeline stages.
Work with source system owners and business stakeholders to set data quality thresholds that are meaningful and actionable.
Requirements
A degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field.
5 to 8 years of software development, including hands-on work with inbound and outbound data exchange interfaces such as APIs, CDC, and endpoint management.
Hands-on experience with Scala or Java, Python, and advanced SQL, plus Git for collaboration and CI/CD practices.
Experience building robust ingestion pipelines and ETL jobs as a software engineer.
A track record managing Azure or other hyperscaler resources.
Knowledge of data lakes and data warehousing. Databricks and Azure knowledge is a plus.
Ability to work across geographies and time zones and to collaborate with global teams and enterprise stakeholders.
Backend or software engineering candidates with a background in Java, Scala, or distributed systems who want to move into data platform engineering are strongly encouraged to apply.
Not a fit if your experience is mainly notebook-based processing (for example Jupyter or ad hoc PySpark) without production deployment, dashboarding, analytics, or BI tools, or SQL-only work without software engineering experience.
Conditions
Hybrid work based in Timisoara.
We welcome applicants regardless of background, nationality, or language.
