The company is a digital infrastructure business whose goal is to shorten the path to connectivity.
This is an expert-level individual contributor role at Sr. Staff level, with no direct people management.
The role is the technical authority on CI/CD architecture, pipeline engineering, build and release automation, software quality, security integration and engineering productivity.
You will find bottlenecks, solve hard technical problems, and set engineering standards that speed up delivery and improve quality, reliability, security and operational efficiency.
You will work with development, quality engineering, security, infrastructure and operations teams to shape technical direction and produce measurable gains in how software is delivered.
This is a backfill role, filling an existing vacancy in the organisation.
Responsibilities
Use broad experience and business objectives to solve complex software systems problems creatively and effectively, and decide the methods and procedures for new assignments.
Set complex code review guidelines by example and keep code quality high.
Design scalable, efficient systems with many dependencies and moving parts.
Debug complex production issues.
Bring best practices from cross-functional teams into the work.
Evaluate and recommend CI/CD tools, frameworks and technologies on scalability, maintainability, integration, security, performance and total cost of ownership.
Define architectural standards and engineering guidelines for pipeline design, version control, branching, build systems, deployment workflows and release management.
Find architectural limits and technical debt in existing delivery platforms and plan how to modernise and simplify the CI/CD ecosystem.
Find and remove bottlenecks across the delivery lifecycle, including source integration, compilation, dependency resolution, testing, artifact publishing, deployment and release validation.
Drive measurable gains in build and pipeline times, feedback cycles, deployment frequency, release lead time and developer productivity.
Analyse pipeline execution data, failure patterns, resource use and workflow dependencies to find root causes and rank high-impact improvements.
Build security controls and compliance requirements into every stage of the CI/CD lifecycle, so security is part of everyday delivery work and not a separate activity.
Define and implement automated security scanning and policy enforcement, including SAST, SCA, secret detection, infrastructure-as-code scanning, container scanning and dynamic testing where it applies.
Integrate SBOM generation, artifact signing, provenance, dependency verification and supply chain security controls into build and release processes.
Set up secure pipeline architecture and access controls, covering secrets management, least-privilege permissions, protected deployment environments and controlled access to build infrastructure.
Implement policy-as-code and automated compliance checks so standards and security rules are applied consistently across pipelines.
Work with security, compliance and infrastructure stakeholders to fix vulnerabilities, reduce delivery risk and improve auditability and traceability.
Set engineering standards, code review guidelines, reusable implementation patterns and automation practices, leading by example.
Own CI/CD solution design and architecture, and shape wider software architecture for long-term scalability and maintainability.
Define technical approaches for complex assignments where requirements, constraints or implementation paths are unclear.
Turn business and engineering goals into technical strategies, architecture proposals, epics, stories and measurable outcomes.
Work with development, quality engineering, security, product, infrastructure and operations stakeholders to align priorities and resolve cross-functional problems.
Bring in proven practices from across engineering teams and the wider industry.
Mentor senior and junior engineers on CI/CD architecture, DevSecOps, automation design, troubleshooting, testing and continuous improvement.
Shape technical decisions through design reviews, architecture discussions, technical documentation and evidence-based recommendations, without formal people-management authority.
Define strategies and implementation approaches for complex problems spanning multiple systems, dependencies, platforms and stakeholder needs.
Work with product and engineering stakeholders to clarify unclear requirements and find practical, scalable solutions.
Balance short-term delivery needs against long-term architecture, maintainability, security and operational risk.
Independently prioritise and manage several complex initiatives as business and technical priorities change.
Treat recurring issues as chances to improve system design, automation, reliability and engineering processes.
Make technical decisions based on data, experiments, engineering judgement and a clear view of customer and business impact.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Extensive, demonstrable experience in software engineering, CI/CD engineering, DevOps, DevSecOps or software delivery platform engineering.
Expert-level knowledge of CI/CD architecture, build automation, release engineering, deployment automation and optimisation of the software delivery lifecycle.
