Description

The company serves the US federal government, with over 13,000 people working on defense, national security, public safety, civilian, and military health work.

The company is a technology firm within a global group and focuses on federal clients.

This Software Engineer role is a full-stack position that keeps the CMS Health Insurance Oversight System (HIOS) running, maintained, and improved.

You will work across legacy and modern application parts in a complex federal production setting.

You will work on a cross-functional Agile team.

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, document, and upkeep secure software that meets production standards.
  • Create and support Java and Spring backend services, APIs, business logic, and database links, plus React or Angular interfaces.
  • Investigate existing code and system behavior to find the causes of complex application, integration, data, and performance problems.
  • Maintain legacy production applications while gradually modernizing them and improving how easy they are to maintain.
  • Write and tune SQL queries, database objects, and data-access code on PostgreSQL.
  • Take part in code reviews, automated testing, defect fixes, release preparation, deployment checks, and production support.
  • Work in AWS-hosted environments using the continuous integration and delivery pipeline built on Jenkins and GitHub.
  • Troubleshoot production issues, fix defects, deliver approved enhancements, and reduce technical debt, including modernizing legacy parts without disrupting live operations.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of software development experience.
  • Experience maintaining and enhancing legacy production systems on a federal program, following formal security, release, change-control, and operational-support processes.
  • Strong Java and Spring skills.
  • Hands-on experience with React and Angular front ends.
  • Experience building data-driven applications on PostgreSQL.
  • Strong communication, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills, since you will balance new development against production stability and continuous service.

Conditions

Pay varies by office location, role, skill set, and experience.

The base pay range is $97,500 - $115,200 USD for roles in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and the District of Columbia, as local law requires.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis with no fixed deadline.

The company is committed to a respectful, inclusive workplace where everyone has equal opportunity.

Benefits

  • A wide range of benefits is available.
  • Support for growth through hands-on experience, certifications, and industry training.
