Description

You will join the development team of a company making AAA games, helping to shape the story of one of its games.

You will work with writers and designers to create story arcs, sharp dialogue, and characters that fit the game's wider themes and its richly imagined setting.

Responsibilities

  • Own narrative content from first idea to finished version, keeping tone and theme consistent across the whole game.
  • Write scripts for every narrative tier: critical path story, optional side content, and systemic dialogue.
  • Write detailed character bios, sample writing, and casting sides for voice actors.
  • Put narrative content and scripts into the game using Unreal Engine and the studio's own narrative tools.
  • Play sessions regularly, give useful narrative and design feedback, and help improve writing pipelines and workflows.
  • Work closely with design, art, engineering, animation, and audio teams to meet the creative goals, keep up with new technology, and find ways around development problems.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional writing experience for games, television, film, or theatre.
  • 2-3 published works of fiction; video game credits are strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with narrative game tools and Unreal Engine, or the willingness and ability to learn them quickly.
  • Ability to work through ambiguity, spot unresolved story problems, and take ownership of clear solutions.
  • A portfolio of high-level storytelling, and the ability to respond quickly and constructively to critique.
  • Writing samples, preferably 2-3, are required to interview for this role.
  • A reliable, positive team member who looks for chances to connect work across disciplines and supports a healthy team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication: explaining complex ideas clearly to different audiences and giving hard feedback with empathy and professionalism.
  • Experience working on cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Persistent, self-motivated, and proactive.
  • Able to keep quality and effectiveness high under pressure, uncertainty, and frequently changing priorities.
  • An active listener who builds trust across all levels of an organization, understands differing views, and handles complexity with tact and emotional intelligence.
  • Open to feedback and direction, eager to learn, and able to make quick, high-quality revisions when insights or constraints change.
  • Strong ownership of tasks, driving work forward independently with a sharp eye for detail and organization.
  • Committed to the company's core values and to a positive, respectful culture, aiming for excellence in everything you do.
  • For candidates in Quebec: professional proficiency in both French and English is required. English is needed to work with U.S. teams and international partners and to handle specialized technical documentation, including reading, writing, and communication.
