Description

The company builds advanced defense systems and is moving quickly, with the team focused on early-stage execution and ownership.

You would join the Seeker Team to lead the internal web application that brings calibration, field testing, ML annotation and training, and Foxglove into one product that engineers and analysts use daily.

You stay hands-on with code while setting technical direction, setting priorities, and mentoring junior developers on a small team.

As technical owner, you will talk with end users about their workflows, make very large datasets fast and easy to reach, and build infrastructure that supports full-rate hardware manufacturing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and lead the application's architecture, from initial design through production, while still writing code.
  • Combine calibration, field testing, ML annotation, ML training, and Foxglove into one application with clear navigation and consistent workflows.
  • Work with engineers and analysts to learn their needs, simplify their workflows, and remove manual steps and one-off scripts.
  • Design data access for terabytes of information using fetching, caching, pagination, streaming, precomputation, background processing, and visualization.
  • Improve usability, adoption, responsiveness, and reliability so users can find tools and data without asking developers.
  • Set up reliable infrastructure, monitoring, automated tests, and safe deployments with frequent releases and simple rollbacks.
  • Make sure the application can support full-rate hardware manufacturing by the end of 2027.
  • Set priorities, assign work, review designs and code, and mentor junior developers.
  • Work within the current technology stack where it makes sense, and change or replace parts only when results show it is needed.

Requirements

  • You have led a web application from architecture and build through production deployment.
  • You are strong in Python, FastAPI, and asynchronous programming with asyncio.
  • You have experience with PostgreSQL, object-relational mapping (ORM), and blob or object storage.
  • You have strong experience with a modern frontend framework, JavaScript or TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
  • You have built responsive applications for large datasets and data-heavy workflows.
  • You have built reliable applications using automated testing, CI/CD, monitoring, and safe deployment and rollback methods.
  • You have good product judgment and user experience instincts, and can turn complex workflows into simple software.
  • You can mentor and delegate to junior developers while staying hands-on.
  • You have taken ownership of application quality, usability, reliability, and user adoption.
  • Nice to have: experience with Plotly or similar data visualization libraries.
  • Nice to have: experience building internal engineering tools, scientific applications, or data-intensive web platforms.
  • Nice to have: familiarity with large-scale data discovery, visualization, and retrieval patterns.
  • Nice to have: experience combining several tools or workflows into one application.
  • Nice to have: experience with background jobs, precomputation, streaming data, and performance tuning.
  • Nice to have: experience preparing applications for high availability or production-critical environments.
  • Nice to have: ability to weigh architecture decisions against near-term delivery on a small, fast-moving team.
