Description

The team builds next-generation uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), and this role helps test and deliver them. You confirm that vessel systems, mission equipment, automation, software and integration interfaces work safely and correctly before a vessel is released for operation.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role across the whole testing cycle, from factory acceptance tests (FATs) and integration testing through harbour acceptance testing to commissioning. You work with production, engineering, project management and suppliers, solve difficult technical problems, and help bring reliable, mission-ready USVs to operation.

The role suits someone who likes methodical testing, technical problem solving and advanced maritime technology. You will see supplier testing, harbour trials and commissioning up close, and your judgement directly affects how dependable these vessels are.

Responsibilities

  • Before testing starts, you check technical requirements, supplier FAT evidence, acceptance criteria, test procedures and prerequisites.
  • You provide technical leadership during component FATs, integration testing, harbour acceptance testing, and any commissioning or SAT work assigned to you.
  • You set up vessel and mission systems, support calibration and test equipment, and make sure objective evidence is recorded correctly in TestRail.
  • You lead or assist with fault finding across mechanical, electrical, automation, software, communications and cross-system integration.
  • You recreate faults, gather data, help with root-cause analysis, and confirm that a fix works through controlled retesting.
  • Within your scope, you keep configuration, software, parameter and calibration records accurate.
  • You advise Project Management, Fleet and technical owners on manuals, troubleshooting, maintenance tasks, spares, tools and commissioning support.
  • You coach test engineers and assigned specialists, improve standard test methods, and carry lessons learned into future vessels.

Requirements

  • You have Bachelor-level (HBO) thinking and working in a relevant maritime or technical discipline, or an MBO 4 qualification backed by substantial practical experience.
  • You have at least 7 years of hands-on experience in vessel testing, commissioning, field service, shipyard integration or a comparable technical setting.
  • You have strong practical knowledge of integrated vessel systems, USV technology, automation, software, communications and technical interfaces.
  • You are confident troubleshooting complex technical issues and separating symptoms from root causes.
  • You understand configuration control, calibration, test evidence, QA/QC, QHSSE, and class or statutory requirements.
  • You are comfortable giving functional technical guidance to engineers, technicians and specialists, without taking on line management or ownership of test execution.
  • You have excellent English language skills.
  • Optional: relevant VCA, maritime, electrical, commissioning or offshore qualifications are advantageous.
  • Optional: Dutch is a preferred extra, though it is not required.

Conditions

You hold a full driving licence and are willing to travel regularly for supplier testing, trials and commissioning support.

You can travel internationally for supplier testing, work irregular hours, and occasionally work weekends during critical test windows.

This is a practical, site-based role.

Flexible working hours are available, and you can work from home in line with your manager and corporate policies.

Benefits

  • A competitive salary.
  • 29 holidays per year on a full-time contract, 4 of them set by company management, with the option to buy 12 additional days.
  • A commuting allowance.
  • A modern pension scheme.
  • Collective health insurance.
  • The option to register for a corporate fitness plan.
  • Coaching options through an employee assistance programme (EAP).
  • Career and training opportunities both nationally and internationally.
