The company needs a senior technical architect to set direction for how its corporate and cloud infrastructure evolves, so that business services stay secure, reliable, scalable and cost-effective.
This is a senior individual contributor role in the technical architecture team. It links infrastructure and cloud decisions to enterprise architecture and the wider technology roadmap, tracks new technologies, advises on current solutions, and drives upgrades, retirements and replacements.
You set direction through standards, roadmaps, guardrails and architecture decisions. You will not run daily operations or build infrastructure yourself. Your job is to give the teams that do a coherent target architecture, practical guardrails and a clear path forward.
Scope covers infrastructure and cloud outside the company platform: data centers, public and hybrid cloud, compute, storage, networking, connectivity, backup and recovery, and the infrastructure behind corporate systems. Other teams keep ownership of their systems and work with you on direction and decisions.
The company platform instance architecture and configuration are out of scope, as are AI and data architecture, though you will support the infrastructure those workloads run on. Enterprise security architecture belongs to the security architecture team, and you work with them as a peer in architecture forums.
Responsibilities
Define current-state, transition-state and target-state infrastructure and cloud architecture, with a multiyear roadmap based on business priorities, risk, lifecycle, capacity and cost. Align it with enterprise architecture principles and the wider technology roadmap, and flag dependencies that affect enterprise plans.
Set reference architectures, principles, standards and patterns for cloud, data center, networking, compute, storage, containers and backup. Advise on infrastructure as code and policy as code, and help delivery teams adopt them.
Define cloud governance, standards and guardrails for Azure and GCP, covering account and subscription structure, landing zones, cost controls and policy as code. Help teams work within them and identify where a guardrail should change.
Lead infrastructure architecture reviews and give architecture input on major technical decisions. Help scope proofs of concept and vendor evaluations. Compare options on value, fit, operability, risk, tradeoffs and total cost, and drive decisions to closure with accountable stakeholders.
Recommend resilience and compliance requirements for high availability, disaster recovery, backup, recovery and continuity, and align recovery objectives with business criticality.
Work with Security Architecture on resilience, compliance and zero trust so security requirements are built into infrastructure and cloud standards from the start.
Plan for AI and ML infrastructure needs, including compute capacity, specialized hardware, data storage and hybrid hosting, with an understanding of agentic AI patterns such as RAG, A2A and MCP. Research emerging technologies that could change how infrastructure is built and run, and advise on when to adopt them.
Favor out-of-the-box capabilities. Require a documented case for any custom pattern or exception, and recommend retiring custom solutions where a standard capability will do.
Work regularly with the DT Integration, Core Systems and Product teams to align infrastructure needs, dependencies and roadmaps. Advise them on the infrastructure impact of their integration, core system and product decisions, and plan changes that depend on shared infrastructure.
Work with finance and operations on infrastructure economics through capacity planning, lifecycle management, workload placement and FinOps. Use incidents, capacity trends, audit findings and resilience test results to shape standards and roadmaps.
Represent infrastructure and cloud in the architecture team and its governance forums, including the Architecture Review Board. Build trusted relationships with senior technology and business leaders, and mentor architects and engineers.
Requirements
10+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure, cloud, platform engineering or systems engineering, including substantial architecture work on complex enterprise environments.
A track record of defining infrastructure and cloud strategy and roadmaps across several technology domains and delivery teams.
Deep expertise in several infrastructure domains, and enough breadth to make integrated decisions across cloud, network, compute, storage, resilience and cost.
Working knowledge of Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) architecture, including landing zones, connectivity, identity dependencies, workload placement and shared-responsibility models.
Solid grasp of agentic AI concepts and patterns, including retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent-to-agent (A2A) communication, Model Context Protocol (MCP) and related technologies.
Experience integrating disparate systems, using enterprise integration patterns such as APIs, messaging and event-driven architecture.
Experience defining cloud governance, guardrails and standards in a large enterprise, and getting teams to adopt them.
Experience creating and governing reference architectures, standards and architecture decision records.
Working knowledge of infrastructure as code and modern automation practices.
Ability to judge architecture choices on business value, risk, cost and operational evidence rather than technology preference.
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and technical teams without direct authority.
Clear written and verbal communication for both engineering and executive audiences.
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred: experience in a large, global, regulated or mission-critical environment.
Preferred: familiarity with IT service management, including ITIL, and with CMDB alignment for infrastructure configuration items.
Preferred: familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF or COBIT, or equivalent.
Preferred: experience with release planning using Agile and Scrum practices.
Preferred: familiarity with AI and ML infrastructure requirements, such as GPU and accelerator capacity, and with zero-trust architecture.
Preferred: experience with FinOps, technology portfolio management and infrastructure cost modeling.
Preferred: relevant architecture, cloud, networking, security or infrastructure certifications.
Preferred: experience guiding vendor strategy or major platform selection.
