Description

The company is hiring a Senior Systems Engineer to lead the systems engineering team that supports software and firmware development. The role sits in Seal Beach or Huntington Beach, CA, and supports the Satellite Systems Engineering group within the Defense, Space & Security business.

The team builds software tools and services for satellite and ground systems used by US government and commercial customers, and works with those customers on next-generation ground systems. The work is fast-moving and uses modern technology, architecture and tools, with a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach.

You will need experience across every phase of systems engineering for FPGA, firmware and software systems: writing and tracking requirements, documenting architecture, algorithms and interfaces, managing the work, and building test and verification plans.

This senior role calls for proven leadership in the software ecosystem, a varied project background, and sound judgment when making decisions and designing new solutions. Strong critical thinking and troubleshooting skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams in planning, designing, developing and verifying complex, lifecycle-balanced system of systems and system solutions.
  • Lead others in assessing customer and operational needs, defining system performance requirements, integrating technical parameters and making sure physical, functional and program interfaces are compatible.
  • Lead analyses that optimise the overall system of systems or system architecture.
  • Lead the planning, organisation, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, and find ways to improve them.
  • Develop and maintain requirements, architecture, algorithms, interfaces and design for high-performance software.
  • Lead software design work, including Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) and Hardware and Software Interface Requirements Specifications (IRS), and bring finished components together into a working system through mission and system testing.
  • Support progress presentations to customer representatives and program or IPT leadership.
  • Help the IPT set a structured plan for development and integration on schedule, within a tightly controlled cost baseline.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, or a non-US equivalent directly related to the work.
  • 5+ years of systems engineering on space systems and ground segments, covering command, control, mission planning and data processing.
  • 5+ years across the software development lifecycle: requirements analysis, design, coding, integration and test.
  • 3+ years leading systems engineering or software development projects.
  • 3+ years writing software requirement specifications.
  • Experience with Agile and DevOps methods.
  • Experience writing Software Requirements Specifications.
  • Experience defining interfaces between multiple software systems and between hardware and software.
  • Experience with formal acceptance testing, such as Formal Qualification Test (FQT), Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT).
  • Ability to obtain a US security clearance; US citizenship is required. You must hold an interim and/or final US Top Secret clearance after start.
  • Preferred: active US Top Secret clearance (US citizenship required). A clearance active within the past 24 months counts as active.
  • Preferred: experience applying MBSE to space programs using Cameo.
  • Preferred: experience as a Product Owner, Technical Lead, or Integration & Test Lead on government programs.
  • Preferred: understanding of real-time applications and their requirements.
  • Preferred: experience with system and mission-level integration tests between flight and ground software.
  • Preferred: experience with space or satellite systems and iLoad configuration tables.
  • Preferred: experience designing HW/SW systems, including system-level design flows and threads that inform software requirements and design.
