Description

The company runs one of the largest networks on the Internet, serving millions of websites and online properties, from individual bloggers and small businesses to Fortune 500 firms.

It protects and speeds up any online application without new hardware, software to install, or code changes. Traffic runs through a global network that improves with each request, reducing spam and attacks while making sites faster.

The company also runs free programs: since 2014 it has protected more than 2,400 journalism and civil society groups in 111 countries, and since 2017 more than 425 local government election websites in 33 states. Its free public DNS resolver never stores client IP addresses and does not sell user data to advertisers.

The team works in short build cycles, uses AI to ship sooner, and shares every improvement so the whole group benefits.

The API Experience team builds the tools and standards that keep the company's API reliable and easy to use. It maintains SDKs and a Terraform provider, builds code generation tooling, and is developing API versioning.

The role suits a senior engineer who focuses on what developers deal with daily: clear interfaces, predictable behavior, useful errors, and upgrades that keep their code working. You will work across languages and teams, help internal engineers build better APIs, and talk with customers directly, whose feedback guides what gets built.

Responsibilities

  • Keep the SDKs and Terraform provider working well, and build the code generators that produce them.
  • Design API versioning and compatibility practices so the API can change without breaking customers.
  • Strengthen API governance with consistent schemas, clear standards, and checks that catch issues before release.
  • Support internal teams daily, and work with customers to find the cause of issues and turn repeated pain points into lasting fixes.
  • Take projects from design through release and long-term upkeep.

Requirements

  • Desirable: 5+ years of experience building large software applications.
  • Desirable: Strong Go skills, backed by production software you have built and kept running.
  • Desirable: Working fluency in languages such as TypeScript and Python, with a sense of what feels idiomatic in each.
  • Desirable: Hands-on experience building, maintaining, or contributing to a Terraform provider.
  • Desirable: Experience releasing SDKs or client libraries, covering testing, versioned releases, dependency management, and backward compatibility.
  • Desirable: Clear views on API design and developer tooling, and the ability to listen, explain tradeoffs, and make practical decisions.
  • Desirable: Solid technical judgment: you can untangle hard problems, set direction, and lead projects from early design through delivery.
  • Desirable: A history of mentoring junior engineers through useful feedback and by giving them ownership.
  • Desirable: Experience applying AI and automation to engineering work, knowing where they add value and checking the quality of the output.
  • Bonus: Experience versioning an API, building schema-driven code generators, or setting up API governance. Tell us what you built, how you maintained it, and what users taught you.
  • Bonus: Experience running containerized workloads at scale on Kubernetes, Docker, or similar orchestration platforms.
  • Bonus: Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and automated testing for infrastructure.
  • Bonus: Open-source contributions to systems software, or active involvement in the systems engineering community.
