Senior Staff Platform Engineer - Kubernetes - Federal

Description

This is a Senior Staff Software Engineer role on the Data Platform team, focused on designing and building features and services for the company's cloud-native platform.

The position is hybrid, which means 2 days per week in a company office. Offices are in San Francisco, Pleasanton, Santa Clara and San Diego, California, and Kirkland, Washington.

The role includes supporting the company's US Regulated Markets.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and run platform components and services, taking features from initial design to production.
• Lead well-scoped projects in your team, turning requirements and rough ideas into sound technical designs and then delivering them.
• Work with senior, staff and principal engineers to keep your work aligned with platform architecture and standards.
• Make your work reliable, scalable and easy to operate by writing tests and instrumentation, improving runbooks and taking part in on-call rotations.
• Spend most of your time coding operators, controllers, automation and platform services that other teams rely on.
• Onboard and mentor junior engineers through code review, design feedback and pairing.

Requirements

• Have experience using AI in engineering work, such as AI-assisted coding and operations tools, workflow automation, or evaluating how AI changes the way software and infrastructure get built.
• Have 12+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8+ years with a Master's degree, 5+ years with a PhD, or equivalent work experience.
• Have 5+ years of hands-on experience building, deploying and running workloads on Kubernetes.
• Have working experience with at least one major hyperscaler (AWS, Azure or GCP), including its core compute, networking and IAM primitives.
• Have a record of delivering complex features or services as a key contributor.
• Have solid working knowledge of containers, CI/CD, GitOps-based delivery and infrastructure-as-code.
• Have strong programming skills in Go, or another systems language with a willingness to work mainly in Go.
• It also helps: experience building Kubernetes controllers or working with the operator pattern.
• It also helps: familiarity with container networking (CNI) or service mesh.
• It also helps: experience with workload identity, mTLS or secrets management.
• It also helps: experience with observability, including metrics, tracing and dashboards.

Conditions

Base pay for this location is $190,900 - $334,100, plus equity when applicable, variable or incentive compensation, and benefits.

The base pay shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation depends on qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location, and compensation is based on the geographic location where the role sits and may change with work location.

Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive structure.

Work personas (flexible, remote or required in office) are assigned based on the nature of the work and the employee's work location.

The company may use a third-party service to check the distance between your primary residence and the nearest company office when determining work persona eligibility.
