The company builds digital identity and credentialing software that protects personal information and gives people control over their data, while letting governments and businesses offer secure services that work together. It works with public-sector clients, including the California DMV, on how identity is issued, stored, shown and checked.
The company is hiring a Senior or Staff Forward-Deployed Engineer to build and grow digital identity apps. You would help create secure, easy-to-use mobile apps and SDKs so people can use digital credentials in daily life.
The job mixes mobile engineering, careful security design and direct work with government partners. You will work across mobile platforms, cryptography, open standards and live deployments, helping deliver identity infrastructure meant to serve millions of people.
Responsibilities
Build, ship and maintain mobile apps for digital identity and credentials, focusing on work for government partners.
Lead development of secure wallets where people can receive, keep, manage and present digital credentials.
Create native iOS and/or Android apps with attention to platform features, speed, stability, security and user experience.
Design and implement secure credential storage, device and biometric login, cryptographic functions and privacy-preserving data sharing on mobile.
Incorporate new identity standards into apps and SDKs.
Turn complicated requirements into clear, accessible app experiences with engineers, designers, product staff and government partners.
Connect mobile apps to backend APIs, credential issuance and verification systems, and platform security features.
Contribute to Rust shared libraries and cross-platform code used across mobile, backend and browser environments.
Own the full mobile lifecycle: architecture, build, testing, release, production monitoring and ongoing upgrades.
Help set mobile practices covering automated testing, CI/CD, observability, secure coding and performance tuning.
Staff candidates: lead technical work across projects, make architecture calls, mentor engineers and help set the long-term direction of the mobile identity platform.
Requirements
5+ years of professional software engineering, including substantial time shipping production mobile apps. Staff candidates should also have led mobile architecture and large technical efforts.
Deep skill in native iOS (Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit) and/or native Android (Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, Android SDK).
Solid grasp of mobile architecture, platform security, app lifecycle, concurrency, performance and reliability.
Hands-on work with mobile security features such as iOS Keychain, Secure Enclave, Android Keystore, hardware-backed keys or biometrics.
Track record of designing and delivering complex user-facing apps from first architecture through production.
Experience connecting mobile apps to backend services, APIs and authentication systems.
Working knowledge of secure development, cryptography basics and protecting sensitive user data.
Sound engineering judgment, comfort with ambiguity, and experience working with engineering, product, design and outside stakeholders.
Strong communication, able to explain tradeoffs and architecture choices to technical and non-technical people.
Care about open source, open standards, interoperability and privacy-first design.
Experience with mobile driver's licenses, digital identity wallets, verifiable credential apps or digital document products.
Familiar with ISO/IEC 18013-5, ISO/IEC 18013-7, W3C Verifiable Credentials, OpenID4VCI, OpenID4VP or related standards.
Built NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy, QR code or proximity credential exchange.
Understanding of public key cryptography, PKI, certificate validation, digital signatures, key management and device attestation.
Integrated Apple Wallet, Google Wallet or similar platform credential features.
Familiar with Rust, including using shared Rust libraries in native apps via FFI or other cross-language bindings.
Cross-platform experience with React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform or similar.
Knowledge of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, passkeys, WebAuthn or federated identity.
Designed mobile SDKs or reusable libraries used by other teams or external partners.
Handled App Store and Google Play releases, mobile CI/CD, automated testing, crash reporting and production observability.
Familiar with accessibility standards such as WCAG, Section 508, VoiceOver and TalkBack.
Worked in government technology, regulated industries, financial services or other security-sensitive settings.
Contributed to open-source projects or taken part in standards groups such as W3C, OpenID Foundation, IETF or ISO.
Living in the US and able to work remotely, eager to build identity infrastructure with public-sector partners.
Conditions
Fully remote, with candidates needing to be located in the US.
