Description

The company is an incubation firm that builds and invests in fast-growing, technology-led businesses in healthcare, cyber, and national security.

Co-founded in 2023 by Joe Laws and Grant Verstandig, the company sells an end-to-end platform that helps enterprises deploy, manage, and optimize AI, closing the last mile of adoption while cutting costs significantly.

Its agentic applications serve complex industries including healthcare, oil and gas, and national security.

The platform, Trase OS, runs mission-critical, long-running workflows in Trase-hosted and customer-controlled environments.

This is a hands-on role with wide ownership across packaging, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, networking, security, observability, release engineering, and production reliability. You will work with engineering and customer-facing teams so deployments can be installed, upgraded, operated, and supported consistently.

The deployment architecture has to stay portable while remaining reliable, secure, and easy to operate, because customers run Trase OS on different clouds, network controls, and security rules.

The work aims to cut one-off deployment effort, reduce reliance on any single cloud provider, and produce reusable infrastructure that internal teams and customers can run with confidence.

The level depends on your experience and demonstrated scope. Staff candidates lead architecture across teams, set engineering standards, and mentor other engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and run secure infrastructure on AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform, plus private-cloud, hybrid-cloud, on-premises, and customer-controlled environments.
  • Package Trase OS services as containers and deploy them with Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Kustomize, or similar tools.
  • Write reusable infrastructure-as-code modules and deployment workflows in Terraform, Pulumi, or comparable tools.
  • Design deployment patterns for customer constraints such as restricted networks, limited or no egress, approved registries, data residency, and customer ownership of cloud accounts.
  • Find hard dependencies on managed cloud services that block portability, then replace or abstract them.
  • Troubleshoot problems across applications, Kubernetes clusters, cloud services, networks, and infrastructure. Platform work is more than CI/CD scripting.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD and GitOps workflows, including release orchestration, environment promotion, upgrade paths, rollbacks, and version compatibility controls.
  • Build and run observability across metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerting, and SLOs so teams can diagnose failures and support customer deployments.
  • Lead infrastructure and reliability decisions that affect several product and customer teams.
  • Set practical standards for production readiness, cloud portability, security, observability, and operational support.
  • Weigh speed, maintainability, cost, security, and customer requirements against each other, then carry decisions through to implementation.
  • Build reusable platform capabilities that replace one-off deployment solutions.
  • Mentor engineers and improve the team's ability to design, ship, and operate distributed systems.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in software, platform, infrastructure, SRE, or DevOps engineering, including owning production systems.
  • Deep hands-on experience with Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and running production clusters.
  • Strong experience with Helm and infrastructure as code such as Terraform or Pulumi, including reusable modules, state management, testing, and change review.
  • Hands-on infrastructure experience on at least two of AWS, Azure, and GCP, with working knowledge of core compute, networking, storage, identity, and managed services across all three.
  • Experience deploying and running software in customer-controlled, private-cloud, hybrid-cloud, or on-premises environments, including adapting cloud-native SaaS products for them.
  • Solid understanding of networking, DNS, ingress, load balancing, certificates, IAM, secrets management, persistent storage, and service-to-service security.
  • Experience building and running CI/CD or GitOps systems for production releases, upgrades, and rollbacks, with metrics, logs, traces, SLOs, and alerts for incident response.
  • Strong software engineering and automation skills in Python, Go, TypeScript, or a similar language, across both application and infrastructure layers.
  • Experience designing secure, portable production infrastructure, including hardening systems and replacing or abstracting cloud-specific managed services when needed.
  • Experience turning a cloud-native SaaS product into a customer-hosted, private-cloud, or on-premises deployment.
  • Proven use of AI-assisted coding and engineering tools to speed up development, infrastructure automation, troubleshooting, operational analysis, or incident investigation.
  • Preferred: Experience in restricted-network, disconnected, regulated, or security-sensitive environments.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with compliance and security frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC 2, NIST, FedRAMP, or related government requirements.
  • Preferred: Experience with service mesh, policy as code, admission controls, software supply-chain security, artifact signing, or software bills of materials.
  • Preferred: Hands-on experience with Crossplane, or meaningful contributions to CNCF projects through code, documentation, design, or community maintenance.
  • Preferred: Experience supporting long-running, stateful, data-intensive, AI/ML, or GPU-enabled workloads.
  • Preferred: Customer-facing engineering, solutions architecture, or forward-deployed engineering experience.
