The company makes embedded semiconductors for automotive, industrial, infrastructure and IoT markets, with more than 21,000 engineers across over 30 countries.
This principal-level role leads the technical side of the global compute and CAD infrastructure used for chip design, combining hands-on engineering with architecture and day-to-day operational ownership.
The scope covers Linux compute, engineering workspaces, project provisioning, LSF, EDA license servers, Perforce, monitoring and automation.
You will work alongside engineering, CAD and IT/IS teams to build environments that are scalable, reliable and consistent everywhere the company works.
Responsibilities
Lead technical direction for EDA compute infrastructure worldwide.
Build and support Linux engineering environments, both interactive and batch.
Partner with IT/IS on compute, storage, networking and server needs, and help plan capacity and technical roadmaps.
Diagnose complex compute and environment failures, and automate work to make systems more reliable and less manual.
Own and evolve the architecture for engineering projects and workspaces, including how they are created and initialized.
Maintain project configuration infrastructure and connect it to PDKs, EDA tools and engineering workflows.
Build extensible options that let project teams customize their setup while staying on a supported platform standard.
Cut the manual steps involved in project setup and lifecycle management, and keep environments consistent across projects and sites.
Lead technical direction for global EDA license-server infrastructure and create standard ways to deploy and administer licenses.
Build and maintain automation for license updates, validation and auditing.
Write robust Python, shell and other automation for CAD infrastructure, and maintain the shared utilities and scripts.
Automate configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring and administration, and connect CAD systems to Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where it makes sense.
Improve observability, auditability and maintainability of infrastructure services.
Build dashboards and metrics for engineering infrastructure, and track compute and license usage.
Spot capacity, performance and reliability risks, and work with infrastructure teams on forward planning.
Create ways to find wasteful use of shared engineering resources.
Help define the supported Linux strategy for EDA environments, coordinate EDA tool compatibility with IT/IS, and support moves between Linux platform generations.
Set clear engineering requirements for infrastructure standards, and separate application requirements from infrastructure operations ownership.
Keep architecture and operations documentation current for critical CAD systems, including scripts, configuration, dependencies and recovery steps.
Provide escalation support for the hardest infrastructure problems.
Train CAD engineers and IT/IS staff so the team does not depend on a few individuals.
Set up sustainable primary and backup ownership for critical services, and design resilience and failover approaches.
Standardize license infrastructure across regional CAD teams and IT/IS, including capacity monitoring, planning, and reporting on availability and usage.
Provide EDA expertise for LSF compute environments, and work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning and resource sharing.
Measure compute utilization and efficiency, and automate detection of inefficient or problematic workloads.
Connect project environments with batch compute and contribute to compute capacity planning.
Give engineering-side expertise for Perforce server infrastructure and operations, including architecture used in semiconductor engineering.
Work with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup and operational ownership.
Support administration and troubleshooting of engineering Perforce environments, and build automation and monitoring for them.
Keep operational documentation and procedures for Perforce current.
