Sign Up to Read Description The company is an embedded semiconductor provider serving automotive, industrial, infrastructure and IoT markets, with more than 21,000 engineers in over 30 countries.
This Principal EDA/CAD Engineer role combines hands-on engineering with ownership of the architecture and operations behind the company's global engineering compute and CAD platform, covering Linux environments, workspaces, project provisioning, LSF, EDA licenses, Perforce, monitoring and automation.
You will work with engineering, CAD and IT/IS teams to build scalable, reliable environments that behave the same way at every site, supporting semiconductor development.
Responsibilities Lead technical direction for the global EDA compute infrastructure. Build and maintain Linux-based engineering environments. Coordinate compute, storage, networking and server needs with IT/IS. Support both interactive and batch compute environments. Help plan capacity and shape the technical roadmap. Diagnose difficult compute and engineering-environment faults. Automate routine work to improve reliability and reduce manual administration. Own the design of the project and workspace architecture. Build and maintain the mechanisms that create and initialise projects and workspaces. Support project configuration infrastructure. Keep environment setup consistent across projects and sites. Build interfaces linking project configuration, PDKs, EDA tools and engineering workflows. Provide extension points so project teams can customise their environments within a supported platform standard. Reduce manual steps in project setup and project lifecycle management. Lead technical direction for the global EDA license-server infrastructure. Create standard methods for deploying and administering licenses. Build automation for license updates, validation and auditing. Write robust Python, shell and other automation for CAD infrastructure. Maintain engineering utilities and infrastructure scripts. Automate configuration generation, provisioning, monitoring and administration. Connect CAD infrastructure to Jenkins/CI and service-management workflows where suitable. Improve observability, auditability and maintainability of infrastructure services. Build dashboards and metrics for engineering infrastructure. Track compute and license utilisation. Spot capacity, performance and reliability risks. Work with infrastructure teams on forward capacity planning. Build mechanisms to detect inefficient use of shared engineering resources. Contribute to the supported Linux OS strategy for EDA environments. Coordinate EDA tool compatibility requirements with IT/IS. Support migration between Linux platform generations. Define clear engineering requirements for infrastructure standards. Separate engineering application requirements from infrastructure operational ownership. Maintain architecture and operational documentation for critical CAD infrastructure. Document scripts, configuration, dependencies and recovery procedures. Provide expert escalation for complex infrastructure problems. Train CAD engineers and IT/IS teams so knowledge is not concentrated in individual experts. Establish lasting primary and backup ownership for critical services. Develop resilience and failover strategies. Work with regional CAD teams and IT/IS to standardise license infrastructure globally. Support license-capacity monitoring and planning. Build monitoring and reporting for license availability and utilisation. Provide EDA expertise for LSF-based compute environments. Work with IT/IS on LSF architecture, provisioning and resource sharing. Develop methods to monitor compute utilisation and efficiency. Support integration between project environments and batch compute. Identify and automate detection of inefficient or problematic workloads. Contribute to compute capacity planning. Provide engineering-side expertise for Perforce server infrastructure and operations. Support the Perforce architecture used by semiconductor engineering environments. Work with IT/IS on server lifecycle, availability, storage, backup and operational ownership. Support administration and troubleshooting of engineering Perforce environments. Build automation and monitoring around Perforce infrastructure. Maintain current operational documentation and procedures for Perforce. Requirements Significant experience in EDA/CAD infrastructure engineering within semiconductor development. Strong Linux or Unix skills. Strong scripting and automation skills, mainly Python and shell. Experience with LSF or comparable distributed compute environments. Experience with enterprise version-control and data-management systems such as Perforce Helix and IPLM. Experience managing engineering projects and workspaces. Understanding of compute, storage and network requirements for EDA environments. Experience with EDA licensing and FlexNet-based licensing environments. Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills. Experience building production-quality engineering automation. Ability to work across global engineering, CAD and IT/IS organisations. Strong technical writing and knowledge-transfer skills. Highly desirable: Perforce server administration and architecture. Highly desirable: LSF administration and integration experience. Highly desirable: FlexNet license-server architecture. Highly desirable: Grafana or similar infrastructure monitoring. Highly desirable: Jenkins/CI automation. Highly desirable: ServiceNow integration. Highly desirable: Cadence and other major semiconductor EDA tool experience. Highly desirable: Linux infrastructure and RHEL migration experience. Highly desirable: Experience supporting geographically distributed engineering environments. Conditions The company is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer and does not discriminate on any basis protected by law.
