Senior Specialist - IT/OT Automation Engineer

The company has operated in the Dutch market for over 50 years, with staff across several activities and business units in Utrecht.

Its first European Cell Therapy facility is at Leiden Bio Science Park, the largest life sciences cluster in the Netherlands. The site focuses on commercial manufacturing and can make several cell therapy products.

The site is being built to supply a new personalized treatment for patients with blood cancer, and the company is growing the team to support it.

The OT systems and automation engineer supports the operation of process automation systems and OT infrastructure and helps set and follow system governance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Act as subject matter expert for process automation systems, including DeltaV and Aveva PI, focusing on infrastructure and analytics.
• Deliver solutions for PAS infrastructure and unit operations that meet business requirements.
• Set priorities for PAS initiatives at the Leiden CTF site and manage their delivery.
• Lead resolution of critical PAS issues that affect site operations.
• Design, code, test and validate automation solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Align standards, philosophies, design approaches and SOPs with enterprise PAS groups.
• Make system changes that keep configuration and content structure optimal.
• Improve operational efficiency and workflows on an ongoing basis.
• Ensure compliance with GxP and GAMP requirements.
• Work with MSAT, MFG, QE, F&E and global teams to deliver and support OT and automation systems.
• Take part in rotational on-call support for digital plant systems alongside team members.
• Develop and follow system governance procedures.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, IT or science, or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of DeltaV and batch processing operations is required.
• Knowledge of Aveva PI is required.
• Minimum 5+ years of relevant industry experience is required; GMP experience is preferable.
• Working knowledge of regulatory requirements and how they apply to business systems and practices, mainly GxP.
• Understanding of engineering documents such as P&IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures.
• Ability to troubleshoot the DeltaV control system, from field elements up through operator interfaces and databases.
• Biologics or cell therapy experience is highly valued but not required.
