Description

The company is a new AI innovation lab inside a larger corporation. It pairs a startup's pace with the reach of a global business, and it builds intelligent tools that change how people work, make things, and collaborate.

The team brings together engineers, designers, researchers, and product people to build adaptive, easy-to-use features across the company's product range, with people at the centre of every decision.

The System Software team builds on-device experiences that make full use of the hardware. It works with internal and external partners on hardware, sensors, algorithms, and interaction models, and suits people who like hard, cross-disciplinary problems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and grow a high-performing embedded software team in a startup-style setting, including mentoring.
  • Act as the technical lead and final escalation point for complex hardware and software integration problems.
  • Explain the technical vision, risks, and progress to cross-functional teams and executives.
  • Set system-level strategy, architecture, and technical direction across several products.
  • Lead delivery of low-level driver and framework software in C and C++ across multiple devices and operating systems.
  • Coordinate hardware and software integration so that cross-functional teams stay aligned.
  • Drive performance, power, and thermal optimisation work.
  • Split your time between hands-on engineering and leadership, covering design reviews, mentoring, and accountability for delivery.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to set roadmaps, priorities, and deliverables.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in system software engineering, embedded platform software development, or both.
  • At least 5 years leading engineering teams, covering mentoring, hiring, team growth, and working through ambiguity in fast-moving settings.
  • Strong depth in system design and architecture.
  • Skilled in embedded C and modern C++.
  • Experience developing on Windows, Android, or Linux.
  • Experience building stable APIs that stay backward compatible, scale well, and are easy to maintain across system software platforms.
  • A track record of leading teams in fast-moving environments.
  • Experience running cross-functional programs from concept through to delivery.
  • Preferred: familiarity with optimisation tools such as Perfmon and Perfetto.
  • Preferred: working knowledge of Java, Kotlin, or both.
  • Preferred: experience porting reference algorithms to hardware accelerators such as GPUs and DSPs.
  • Preferred: experience with board bring-up, driver development, and communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Preferred: familiarity with ARM System-on-Chip (SOC) architecture.
  • Preferred: experience developing bare-metal firmware for microcontrollers.
  • Preferred: ability to use common lab equipment, such as logic analysers, to debug low-level software issues.
