Description

You will join the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls team, which sits in the battery and high voltage release train.

The role centres on embedded control software that manages high voltage contactors and energy management for battery packs in the company's electrification lineup.

The team builds and ships this software for electric vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Build dependable software for embedded controllers that govern high voltage contactors and battery pack energy management.
  • Keep the software compliant with safety requirements, government regulations and internal company rules, including MISRA.
  • Apply sound design practice, including design patterns, supervisory control structure and hardware abstraction.
  • Write and refine physics and controls requirements that drive better mechatronic control, diagnostics and controller communication.
  • Stay current on Ethernet and automotive buses such as CAN, LIN and ARXML.
  • Test and demonstrate that software works and is ready, keeping solutions independent of specific hardware across all company-owned software.
  • Write requirements for design solutions and link each one to test cases so every requirement stays traceable.
  • Run automated tests in build environments, on test benches and in vehicles at the controller, system and vehicle levels.
  • Guide your Agile Scrum teammates and help keep the team collaborative and inclusive.
  • Work with groups including Systems and Safety, Validation, Electrical Architecture, Software Defined Vehicle, Calibration and Vehicle Performance.
  • Use BDD and TDD to build quality in early, catching defects sooner and involving testers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Apply Software Defined Vehicle and service-oriented architecture principles to create modular, optimised software.
  • Use CI/CD pipelines to develop, test and deploy software, applying DevOps practice.
  • Develop AI-driven diagnostics and predictive analytics to improve fault detection, prognostics and anomaly detection in embedded control systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical or computer engineering, or in computer science.
  • At least 5 years of work in embedded controls software for high voltage battery systems.
  • Automotive safety experience with ISO 26262.
  • Strong background in system design, diagnostics strategies and control systems for embedded software.
  • Hands-on experience testing with SiL, HiL and vehicle-level frameworks.
  • Proficiency in C and C++.
  • Deep understanding of diagnostics strategies, software verification and validation methods.
  • Working knowledge of virtual testing, DevOps and CI/CD pipeline integration.
  • Experience with JIRA and the Scaled Agile Framework.
  • High integrity, comfort working with ambiguity, and the drive to take initiative.
  • Consistently innovative thinking with a customer focus.

Conditions

Hybrid role: you are expected to work from the Milford Proving Grounds office in Michigan at least three days per week, or at the frequency your manager sets.

Applicants may be required to complete a role-related assessment and/or a pre-employment screening before starting.

The company is committed to a workplace free of unlawful discrimination that also fosters inclusion and belonging.

Benefits

  • Preferred: Master's degree in engineering (electrical, mechanical or computer) or in computer science.
  • Preferred: 8 years of experience in embedded controls software for high voltage battery systems.
  • Preferred: Expert-level skill in C, C++, MATLAB Simulink, auto code generation and Python scripting.
  • Preferred: Experience with bootloaders, embedded operating systems, controller communication or diagnostics, and complex device drivers.
  • Preferred: Working experience with AUTOSAR standards and methodology.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with MISRA guidelines.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of CAN, LIN, ARXML or Ethernet communication protocols.
  • Preferred: Proficiency with software architectures.
  • Relocation benefits are available to candidates who qualify under company policy.
  • Well-being support starts on day one, covering work and home life.
